Michael Fredo was influenced by recordings by artists such as Antonio
Carlos Jobim, Frank Sinatra, and Duke Ellington, Michael
studied and performed in highschool productions and
coffee houses developing a reputation as an entertainer
and jazz aficionado.
At the age of 17 Michael moved from his hometown of Elmire NY,to Manhattan to study
at the prestigious Professional Children’s School for
the performing arts.
Michael’s talent was soon noticed by fellow student
Paul Ellington, Grandson and heir to the famed Duke
Ellington Orchestra. Paul had Michael audition for his
father Mercer Ellington, the conductor of the Duke
Ellington Orchestra and was cast as the lead male
vocalist for the worldwide tour. For the next four
years, Michael toured the world with the Orchestra
performing in theaters and concert halls with the likes
of Diana Krall and many others.
One night at an industry party in Los Angeles,
Michael met Grammy award winning producer Quincy Jones
and convinced him to take 5 minutes to hear him sing in
his hotel room. Quincy agreed and was so impressed
that he signed Fredo to his first major label record
deal later that month where he went on to sell over 2
million copies of his debut album. (Quest/WarnerBros.)
Fredo’s music accompanied the Tommy Hilfiger ad
campaign of which he became the model and spokesperson.
Touring the world with Britney Spears, The Backstreet
Boys, N’SYNC, and other pop supergroups gave Michael
unprecedented exposure and experience but something
about his Jazz days never left his soul.
“Those days were crazy and exciting but in the end I was
most natural with a Billy Strayhorn tune and a martini
glass in my hand”
Michael Fredo is currently recording his big band
album with producer Jay Levine that will be called
American Classics and features a full orchestra.
