Mr Carrera has spent over 10 years in the electronic recording industry as a DJ, promoter, and studio engineer. Growing up in Los Angeles San Fernando Valley gave Michael a distinctive musical upbringing. Through a combination of family, friends, the birth of MTV, the diverse city which he called home, Michael was continually being exposed to different and unique sounds. These sounds would one day be the colors to the palette of Michaels unique DJing and producing style.
As the 80s came and went, Michael had absorbed everything the decade had to offer; glam rock, pop, punk, ska, disco, hip hop, electronic. But as the 90s emerged, Michael soon discovered the underground warehouse scene. Sneaking out and attending these massive events soon became a nightly occurrence for him. As the weeks became months, Michael had decided he no longer wanted to be just one of the crowd moving, but rather be the one making the crowd move.
In the mid 90s, Michael purchased a set of turntables from a friend and started to practice every day. He would study DJs nightly and then apply what he learned, adding his own unique spin on the process. He started recording his practice sessions and would hand the tapes out to promoters, dancers, club kids. In 1993, he caught the attention of an LA promoter and went to work for him, handing out flyers on the street. Michael realized that promoting parties was born into his DNA. Eventually, the months of practicing with turntables and the nights out handing out flyers paid off: Michael played his first major gig. He dropped the needle on his first record and the energy was contagious. He knew that his home would always be behind the turntables.
His talent has brought him to multiple cities around the U.S., including San Francisco, Orlando, Milwaukee, and his hometown of Los Angeles. Hes held more than a dozen residencies over his career, and has played alongside some of the biggest names in the DJ world; Doc Martin, Keoki, Derrick Carter, and Bad Boy Bill to name a few. His style is beyond genres, he blends the line between filtered house, banging house, pop, 80s, electro, jazz, funk, and soul. In his mind, there are only two types of music: Good and Bad. He believes that DJing is more than just playing music for a crowd; its a chance to play something for people they havent heard before. A way to reimagine your favorite songs in new ways. From early in the evening, through the peak, and into the A.M., Michael provides a solid groove. No sessions are the same- as no crowd is the same.
