Karita was born in Victoria BC Canada on October 17th 1979. At the age of 2 she stated to her mother that she wanted to be a star. As a child, she would always sing at the top of her lungs, the song ˜Tomorrow, from the classic movie Annie. Her grandmother Shirley would go to her house and ask her to sing while she played the piano. In her early teens she performed in some school musicals as the leading female, and sang in her school choir. Throughout her late teens she entered into some Karaoke contests, and performed live in various school activities, LDS church functions and always at family reunions. But she did not start to really start to perform professionally until she was almost 22, when she moved to South Korea for a teaching opportunity. Within her first couple weeks in Ilsan-Dong South Korea, she became the lead singer in an all girls, all English teacher band. She had finally found something that made her feel alive. So in the 8 months that she was in Korea, her band, names the KimChee Chicks played at three different bars, and recorded a couple CDS of covers, just for fun and for memories of their time as a Band. Now the name of the band, KimChee Chicks, is a mix between the spice girls and the Dixie Chicks. KimChee is a Spicy cabbage famous in Korea and because the girls wanted a catchy name, they used the KimChee in mocking for the Spice girls, and the Chicks because of the Dixie Chicks. In the end, the people loved listening to the band play, and the break up for the band was a sad time, but Karita needed to get to the country that she loves the most, Mexico. In 2003 Karita arrived in Mexico and was offered a Teaching job in Celaya, Guanajuato, in Central Mexico. While she was there she met many new friends that loved to hear her sing. One of her friends owns a publicity company and was doing an anniversary party for the Ford of Celaya, and he asked Karita to sing, acapella, at the party. She had a standing ovation, and was congratulated afterward. Not long after that, she was at a university teaching English and one of the students went up to her saying that she heard Karita sing at the Ford party and that she should enter into a contest called Intermodelos, that is based out of Mexico City. It was already past the deadline for entries, but Karita went to the Enrollment office, sang acapella, and the owner of the modeling agency quickly said, you are in! So Karita looked everywhere for a karaoke CD in English because at this time her Spanish was still very broken, and she found one by Celine Dion ‘That’s the way it is’ And with that song Karita won first place in Celaya Guanajuato and an all paid trip to the finals in Mexico City, Where she was also a first place winner. After that Karita started to compose music, she had never before played a guitar, but as stubborn as she is, she bought the cheapest guitar she could find, and taught herself to play. She composed her first song called ˜no puedo vivir sin ti where she combined her Spanish with her English, making a sweet love song. After that she performed at various locations in and around Celaya for fun. But she never had the chance to do anything professional. In 2004 Karita had an opportunity to perform at a concert in Minatitlan Vera Cruz, with her Friends band. She performed a couple songs as the lead singer and the crowd loved her. At the end of that same year, Karita returned to Canada to spend some time with her family, during this time she composed a few more songs, and also had a few gigs at some Latin restaurants. She also performed in a few contests where she was first runner up and also performed in a talent night in her church. In January of 2006 she returned to Mexico and moved to Merida Yucatan. She met some great new friends and the heard her sing and was convinced that she needed to record an album. So in August of 2006, she met her producer Ruben, the cousin of her best friend Dori, and they started to record her first Original album,’ en las dos Manos. This album is mostly ballads in Spanish and English, but she wanted to have something to send to labels and something that she could have as a good Demo. Because of myspace Karita has had alot of good feedback and will be pursuing her music further. Currently Karita is performing at various locations in and around Merida Yucatan. She has been on Channel 2 for the New Year's Day party, she has had interview on the 99.3 EXA radio station with Las Nachas, and recently has had an interview with a local newspaper, for her performance in Progresso Yucatan.
