Meri Accepts her 1st Place Sunflower Songs Songwriting Trophy

Meri is an entertaining and talented live performer. She is a prolific songwriter combining forward thinking, honest lyrics with both rock riffs and folk melodies. Her powerful voice has a great depth and range, complimenting her unique guitar style. She's not a girlie songstress, she's a seriously captivating, intelligent artist who seeks to touch hearts and create value with her music.

Meri was brought up by folk musician parents and started writing songs at the age of nine, (a fantastic tune called ‘lampshade’). Her dad bought her an electric guitar and an amp and showed her Nirvana songs. She made a band, went to university, swapped electric for acoustic and tried to get a 'proper' job, forgetting all about her musical talents. After becoming rather bored and annoyed, she gave up 'work' and concentrated on music in London where she frequented the venues on the acoustic gig scene. She then moved to Norfolk and soon afterwards Brighton, and played both acoustically and with various bands, won a norfolk acoustic competition, and recording time.

She is currently based in Leicester and won 1st place in the 2009 Leicestershire sunflower songwriting competition, more recording time and a gig at 'The Big Session' folk festival. Meri is now working with Pinkbox Records to release an EP in 2010. She has also had the track 'Lonely' remixed by happy hardcore legend DJ Sy and it is soon to be released.

"This petite female tells you how it is and makes no apologies for it!"

- Sean Creed - Brighton Radio DJ

It was a real pleasure to catch Meri’s set at the Nelson.

She is one of those performers who seems like she was born playing the guitar, it all seem so effortless. Her playing allows the instrument to accompany rather than dominate her songs. The reward is that you get the full benefit of her beautiful, emotionally charged voice.

She may look angelic but that belies a songwriter who has real edge in her work - the lyrics shock and amuse while being sung with honesty and not a little humour. By her own admission her music is punk inspired, so despite the resemblance to Joni Mitchell, she delivers a performance that has real intensity.

Challenging and affecting, I highly recommend you catch Meri Everitt as soon as you can. - Steve Simpson - Myvillage
