How Do We Do It?…Volume! Volume!! Volume!!!
In the beginning, the various members of the Providence, RI based pop/punk band Meat Depressed were involved in different projects but came together on Halloween to perform "as the Ramones." It was supposed to be a one time event, but the boys had so much fun doing it, they scheduled a few more shows. Calling themselves 1-2-3-4, the band played about a dozen tribute shows in New England before calling it quits and returning to their own bands.
Bob and John were playing in one band while Peter and Vic were playing in another. They often found themselves playing on the same bill and engaging in what they call "the rock band version of flirting." The courtship continued until the winter of 1997 when they decided to get the band back together. This time it would be to play their own music.
They named the band Meat Depressed ("because all the good names were taken, jokes Leemon) and set out to play "anytime, anyplace, anywhere!" They released their first full length CD "Pleased To Meat You" in March of 1998 and on the strength of their first single, "What Have You Got Against Me?" enjoyed strong sales and air play in the Northeast.
After playing more than 70 shows that year in support of "Pleased To Meat You" they began work on the follow up CD, "Deface The Nation" which was released on 9/9/99.
The first single "It's Time To Fuck!" has received airplay throughout the Northeast. "It's more than just a love song" says Walsh, "It's a public service for people that might have trouble finding that special someone. One pick up line never works, but if you can't get laid with 40 of them in a row that rhyme, then there's no hope for you!" A special edited version called "It's Time For Nik" is the official theme song for Nik Carter's "Afternoon Fiasco" on WBCN. The follow up single is "Mad At The World".
The songs "Mad At The World" & "Get Away" from Meat Depressed's CD "Deface The Nation" were recently featured on the ESPN extreme sports show B3.
In December of 1999 the band was chosen to help the Ramones celebrate the launch of their new web site by playing the www.officialramones.com Cyberpunk Blitz at CBGB's in New York City.
On January 10th, 2001 Meat Depressed performed at the Punk Magazine 25th anniversary publication party at CBGB's in New York.
Meat Depressed's infamous "1-2-3-4 Ramones Medley" is now available with the release of "1-2-3-4 Meat Depressed plays Ramones B-Sides & More" The CD cover to "1-2-3-4" was drawn by legendary cartoonist John Holmstrom (Ramones Rocket To Russia & Road To Ruin) Meat Depressed were honored to play at CBGB's for "Remembering Joey - A Brothers Tribute" A memorial for Joey Ramone set up by his Brother Mickey Leigh as well as Arturo Vega's "The Bowery Electric Festival"
Bringing things full circle, Meat Depressed reprise 1-2-3-4 for an annual Halloween show that's not to be missed!
Mixed and mastered by Ed Stasium, "FAT DRUNK & STUPID" is the lastest MD cd, featuring (Here We Go) PATRIOTS as well as 2 songs with guest vocals by Joe Queer. Available NOW via Interpunk
