The NME had some rather nice things to say about it:

"Like fellow Lancashire men The Verve and Elbow before them, Maupa make a joyously beautiful noise that belies their bleak mill town surroundings. This Accrington six-piece only really have one setting - "epically magnificent" - and it makes an utterly mesmeric listen. While the stratospheric guitars of "once in a while" and "Toy Trains" may occasionally lean towards prog, their chiming folk-flecked songs are never laboured, thanks to singer David Boon's extraordinary, breathy timbre. For far too long, these everyblokes have been one of the northwest's best kept secrets. And whether or not "Run Run Sleep" sees Maupa finally set off down Guy Garvey's mob's path to recognition, though, it's still a total gem."

Hmmm let me thinkMaupa.

It all begn a long time ago, and came from nowhere… just conversations and music… its hard to describe… so i'll let somone else… heh heh! Well, anyway… to cut a long story short… after years of playing gigs and writing tunes, by 2004, we'd finally managed to get together enough songs to release an album (plus a load of rare tracks that didn't make the album… search 'em out mega fans - its your quest!) on Necessary Records, called…

'The Minor Highs and The Major Lows'

Here's what some other people thought of it

'Beautiful, haunting and instantly striking. That's how to describe Maupa's wonderful debut. Walls of guitar end where space noises begin.'

THE FLY.

'It swells and rumbles along with a haunting beauty that tips a hat to Zeppelin at their most folky, Mercury Rev, Cowboy Junkies and other powerful leftfield vibes.'

THE INDEPENDENT.

'A minor high? No, quite palpably a major high. Let's welcome back the BIG music.'

BBC ONLINE.

‘They have their own sumptuous sound that sends a shiver down your spine. Brilliant.’

CITY LIFE.

After many gigs and some time for reflection… ahem, in 2007 we had a new set of songs we wanted to record… and it was at this time that we were approached by Blackburn College and their unique new record label, Onsong Records. They offered us the opportunity to record our second album… recorded thoughout 2007 in Salford and Blackburn… we’re proud to present…

'Run Run Sleep'

Check out the reviews below…

‘This Accrington six-piece only really have one setting - "epically magnificent" - and it makes an utterly mesmeric listen. For far too long, these everyblokes have been one of the northwest's best kept secrets. Run Run Sleep is a total gem. 8/10.’

NME.

‘Maupa have managed to make a majestic indie record that demands to be heard. It's bold and ambitious whilst remaining vital and accessible.’

INDIEMP3.CO.UK.

Both albums are available online and in many good record stores (and some bad ones, too!). Amazon is a good place to start:www.amazon.co.uk (and the single Helpless is still listed here too)

We've also had one or two splendid live reviews. Here's one taken from NME:

"For those who’ve ever braved a visit to Maupa’s birthplace Accrington, the noises cascading from the stage tonight would make perfect sense. Hauntingly beautiful and then suddenly harshly visceral, the conflict at the heart of their songs perfectly embodies the stark contrast between the naturally idyllic Lancastrian moors that surround their hometown and the growing social decay that bastards like the BNP are exploiting within it. Sounding like a ‘Ladies and Gentlemen….’ Era spiritualized and early Verve jamming together in a dank, dark cave on songs such as ‘A Hard Day Will Mend’ and ‘Helpless’, lilting guitar chimes slowly build to huge crescendos of pure, unbashed sonic chaos. Meanwhile, scratch beneath the psyche-tinged surface of songs such as ‘Wish’ and ‘Sour Fruit’ (Taken from the forthcoming debut LP ‘The Minor Highs and The Major Lows’) and it’s clear there’s a dark, morose undercurrent aching to be discovered. The calm within the storm comes in the form of Maupa’s elfin singer David Boon. During the set closer and standout song ‘Nobody Told Me’ he cradles his guitar like a precious newborn while weaving his breathless, androgynous vocals around it’s fragile, epic guitar soundscape. Moments of such genuine ethereal beauty are rare. Hold them close."

Anyway, hope that's helped a bit, take it easy kids, hope to see you soon
