Hi there, my name is Matt Combs, and I'm a fiddler in Nashville, Tennessee. Lately, I've been playing with the Mike Snider, the Nashville Bluegrass Band (when their fiddler is busy), Ray Price, Elizabeth Cook, and I'm the Director of the fiddle department at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music. In 1997, after I graduated from U of Michigan's School of Music with a classical performance degree, I packed it all up and moved to Nashville to play the fiddle. Over the last few years, I've played with some interesting folks. My most recent long-term gig was with Mike Snider on the Grand Ole Opry, prior to that I worked with quite a few different artists. The most influential to me was John Hartford--he taught me a lot about creativity, showmanship, and musicianship in general. I've got one of his derby hats. I've also worked with Ray Price, Jimmy Martin, Norman and Nancy Blake, Marty Stuart, Doc Watson, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Elizabeth Cook, Josh Graves, Kenny Baker, Curly Seckler, Jerry and Tammy Sullivan, The Tennessee Mafia Jug Band, Chris Jones, The Fairfield Four (yea, that's right!) and other various sundry characters. Hell, one time, I even played "Footprints in the Snow" with Charley Pride on the Grand Ole Opry. I have also worked with the Nashville Opera, The Nashville Chamber Orchestra, and a few orchestras around the region. Recently, I've appeared on "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" on the Food Network, and a documentary about Andrew Jackson on PBS. I've also appeared on CMT, and GAC playing on the Grand Ole Opry. As an educator, I've given workshops at Mark O' Connor's fiddle camp, Blair's International Fiddle School, The New England Conservatory, and Wichita State University. Currently, I'm working in conjunction with the Nashville Symphony and the CMHOF on an educational program for kids called "Is it fiddle or violin?".  I've recorded on a Grammy Award winning soundtrack for PBS entitled "Rachael and Andrew," and I've made some arrangements for Roy "Futureman" Wooten, Wichita State University's Percussion Ensemble, David Grisman's Mandolin Symposium, and Adrienne Young.
