Martin Furey,of the High Kings, has a unique brand of contemporary singer/songwriter folk music which takes traditional rhythms and instruments, and adds an oblique twist to produce an exhilarating sound thats been wowing audiences for over 10 years.

Alone with his guitar Martin is an exemplary singer/songwriter with a voice like an Irish Aaron Neville, which is a good thing (Time Out), and song writing skills which are inherently natural a songwriter of some might (Folk Roots).

Martin started out in Edinburgh where in the late 80s his first band Sam Harlet was formed with fellow guitarist Robin Hurt(http://myspace.com/robinhurt)Al Denholm(of Hobotalk) and Greg Stewart (http://www.guillemots.com).The band were hugely innovative and recognised as such by the vibrant Edinburgh scene of the time.Moving back to Ireland in 1992 the band became Bohinta and Martin's sister Aine joined them. The band members were the same with Roy Marchbank (http://www.myspace.com/roymarchbank) replced Robin and Dave McLeod replaced Al Denholm and they became Bohinta.

In 1996 Bohintas first album Sessions appeared Mojo and Q Magazine, who said Martin is a songwriter of some might, and in 1999 an eight week tour of Australia was awsome and many crazy people met their musical fate!Dogs barked ,cats miaowed and cows were milked furiously.Bohintas 2nd album Belladonna was released in 2002 to the same enthusiastic reviews as Sessions and appearances at The Fleadh in London, Glastonbury, and Dranouter Festival in Belgium, the big green gathering(fave)

Belladonna was the group's second album and was made at Real World Studios in Bath, owned by Peter Gabriel. The Album was produced by Stuart Bruce(Bob Marley,Nik Kershaw ,website http://www.flammusic.com/pages/profil_gb.php?pro_id=5).Although the making of the album proved a huge learning curve,it resulted in a definitve progressive album,Belladonna.Martin studied Stewart Bruce's engineering practises, with a view to engineering a solo album of his own. This album was to be Monkey's Wedding.

February 2003 saw the release of Martins debut solo album Howl which was described by Mojo Magazine as haunting songsarrangements that get under your skin. Produced by Martin Swan (of Mouthmusic) and recorded at his Scottish studios, the album features 11 new self-penned songs and "MUSIC SCOTLAND" saw Martin as a singer with the technique and the nerve to be right out in front

Martin is currently working in Ireland. The music on this page is from a live gig in Dublin.Band MEMBERS ARE AS FOLLOWS Robin Hurt(Guitars/Mandolin)Garry Low(Percussion),Martin Swan(Fiddle),Mick Flynn(Accordion),Tommy Keane{uilleann pipes/low whistles),guest Vocals by Aine Furey and myself(Vocals,Acoustic Guitar,Low whistle(Goldie),Uillean Pipes}Create your own visitor map!
