About me:

Formed in late 2006, Mars Needs Cheerleaders is a five-piece death metal act, based

out of Granite City, IL.

In light of today's countless unoriginal death metal bands, Mars Needs Cheerleaders

could be considered the much needed breath of fresh air that this decades music

scene has been yearning for. With their powerful, yet melodic riffs, poetically

haunting vocals, and uncompromisable dedication to their music, Newcomers to the

metal scene and even the life long fans could find satisfaction in listening to

their music.

MNC found its start in mid-September of 2006. Started by front man, Joshua Goor,

the band was originally meant to be a more experimental metal-core band. The

members then were Joshua Goor (Vocals), Jessica Nance (Vocals), Jonathon Steward

(Drums), Chris Leith (Guitar), Zach Vinson (Guitar), and Austin Perigen (Bass).

After losing Jon and Chris, the band searched for new talent to add to the line up.

Michael Lindsay took up as the new Guitarist and Aaron Rigney placed himself at the

drum throne.

Talk about the bands separation in that time by former fans gave the band all the

more reason to come back swinging. They relinquished their former persona and began

writing heavier more emotionally driven music. They returned to the limelight with

a vengeance.

In late October of that same year Jessica decided to leave the band to pursue the

writing and performing of more experimental types of music. She stated these

feelings in the following blog entry:

".It has become very clear to me over the past few weeks that Mars is something I

should not be a part of. I absolutely love performing and enjoy the music we play,

but my heart isn't in this anymore. My heart belongs to a whole different genre. If

you were to take a look at each of our influences, I would clearly stick out. I

don't feel like I can contribute to Mars because this is not the music I want to

play. I look forward to starting something new in the future

.The band and myself are still friends, and I will continue to support them with

all of their future endeavors. I just don't want anyone to think that I'm leaving

because of any rude feelings toward them or that they are kicking me out because

that is not true. This is solely a decision that came over time and with change of

musical interest."

Losing Jessica was a huge setback for Mars, some would say that a female band

member was the only thing they had going for them back then. There were talks of

finding a new second vocalist, male or female. But it was later decided that one

vocalist was enough. Jessica as of yet has not announced a new project.

Mid-2008 brought the rise of new guitarist Isaac Morton, who is out to prove

himself as one of the most proficient and talented metal guitarists of our time.

He can be found on the recordings of Beelzeblunts and The Blood Moon Doth Arise.

Frontman Joshua Goor believe that this is a final line-up, and to not expect any

more changes in the future.

Cut to the present, Mars Needs Cheerleaders is writing all new material, which can

be found on their upcoming EP. No release date on the record has been

announced.
