About Markus Rill:Markus Rill's songs will move you and make you think. This German-born, Texas-schooled and Nashville-refined artist is the genuine article. His one-of-a-kind sandstone voice, rough-edged mix of rock'n'roll, country, folk and blues and his concise lyrics have earned him acclaim from artists as diverse as Tom Waits, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bonnie Raitt, Ray Davies of The Kinks and Robert Smith of The Cure. His passionate and no-frills performances have won over audiences in the USA, the UK, Germany, France, Spain and the Netherlands.
Markus Rill's last three albums topped the EuroAmericana Chart, a number of his songs have won prestigious awards and he's the only German artist on the renowned Blue Rose record label, home of songwriting icons like Kris Kristofferson, Steve Earle and John Hiatt. Three of Rill's songs have been featured in American independent movies.
And yet, despite his success in roots music circles, Rill's name is hardly a household commodity. That may be partly due to his refusal to commercialize himself and his music, partly to the corporate music industry's inability to sell anything other than assembly line product.
If you like honest, hard-hitting, handmade music, do yourself a favor and check out Markus Rill.
Rill has shared the stage with Townes van Zandt, Dire Straits co-founder David Knopfler, Tom Russell, Chris Knight, Jason Ringenberg, Hazeldine, Steve Wynn, Hal Ketchum and countless others and recorded with Duane Jarvis, Fats Kaplin, Steve Conn, Dave Jacques and Bryan Owings.
