Thanks to everyone for a great year in 2011! The Dubb is gearing up for a big run in 2012.
Welcome to the Selah Dubb website. We want to thank our friends for joining in with us for another wonderful year. Where do you we even start this year? We kicked off Spring with a ski tour to Colorado and back. However, we first got to kick that tour off with a few shows with Pato Banton & The Now Generation along the Carolina coastline.
Returning from Colorado, we walked right into Azalea Festival and then the first of several surf events: ESA Regionals, Sweetwater Reef Pro -Am with Rob Machado, & of course, "The Buddy". Our summer was fabulous! Beachside gigs with regulars who have become like family. Summer concert series: WECT6 Summer Nights, Charleston County Parks and Recreation Reggae Nights, Mayfaire's Music on the Town, etc. Fall included hosting a 2nd Pato Banton & The Now Generation Tour through the Caroilnas, which included a stop at the newly re-opened Ziggy's, a venue which boasts timeless Carolina reggae history. Then, we chilled out at home and caught up with some of our friends, family, and favorite local non-profit events: Project HEAL, Hope from Helen, Wrightsville Beach Longboard Association, & various surf nights / hurricane relief drives.
Finally, somewhere in the middle of all of that Mark and I re-recorded and officially released, Radio Free Babylon, a full-length album that we are totally excited about sharing with everyone!
Now it's on to a new year and a nationwide run for 2012 (Spring dates soon to be released). Help us spread the Dubb by picking up the new CD online. Otherwise, we will see you on spring tour!
One Love, "Baby Beats"
With a rich history spanning over 15 years, Selah Dubb has rocked audiences throughout the country and overcome innumerable challenges along the way. By consistently hashing out new songs and continuously improving their DIY formula, The Dubbsters have captured the attention of both new and dedicated fans alike. In the face of an ailing economy where most record companies are shelving acts and struggling to stay afloat, Selah has tightened up their underground approach by managing their own business to keep the music alive and in full motion.
Mark Evangelist (lead vocals, guitarist, songwriter, and producer) is the leading light of the band. His passion for reggae music and his original, high energy songwriting has kept Selah thriving since its inception. By touring non-stop throughout the years and recording 12 albums, the group has developed a great reputation in the southeast and beyond. Heather "Baby Beats" Purdin (support vocals and keys) was a surprising addition to the group. Coming to North Carolina from Athens, GA she attended a Selah show in Boone and became instantly hooked. When a position in the band became available shortly thereafter, she jumped on the opportunity. Her job in the band is not only as a keyboard melody maker but also live engineer, controlling the digital aspects of the music like that of a DJ. Last summer, coastal rootsman, Quazi joined the band to play drums. His solid foundation and attention to detail bring a dance quality that keeps the rhythm shaking and body moving. In the studio, Tom Higgins (owner of Dreamland Sonic Studios) and Peter Hanast bring the band's recordings to fruition with their absolute dedication, organic recording style, and creative enthusiasm.
Traveling across the USA since the band's inception, Selah has been fortunate to share the stage opening for many of their favorite artists: The Wailers, Widespread Panic, Jimmy Cliff, Slightly Stupid, P-Funk, Steel Pulse, Train, Black Uhuru, Burning Spear, Eek-a-Mouse, Lakeside, Culture, Yellow Man, and many more. On occasion, they will surprise you and weave a few covers into their sets to honor the artists before them who have helped the reggae movement thrive as it does today.
