Massive Ego formed in 1996 with original band members Marc Massive and Andy JT and the current line-up includes Olly Frost. Marc ex model and dancer, DJ and art event curator has fronted the band from the beginning. From humble beginnings the band were at the centre of the short lived Melody Maker inspired new romantic revival scene called 'Romo', and played a much more guitar/synth led sound, compared with the more electronic sound they're known for today, and culminating in a glowing half page review by Simon Price in Melody Maker.
Over the years Massive Ego have played the length and breadth of the UK at clubs and festivals including dates in Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Nottingham, Brighton, and London's Finsbury Park and Trafalgar Square in front of thousands, and seen several single and album releases both in the UK and Germany as well as releases in Japan on Avex Trax, and Australia on the Pro-DJ label.
The band is also known for their 'out there' promo videos, which have seen heavy rotation in clubs/bars and malls right across America through Club Vision.
Marc & Olly are also known for their annual London underground art events 'Act Art' which has gone from strength to strength attracting thousands to each event.
In 2010 the band made a return to the live stage with a performance at Pride London, on the main stage in Trafalgar Square, in front of thousands and featured new member Collagen Girl on synth, alongside Marc, Andy and Olly. The band returned to the studio with an original track called 'I Idolize You', which saw a new darker, and more industrial sounding direction musically, and was released in 2011 through the bands own new label, Public Disordar Records.
Bang up to date, 2012 sees the band working on tracks for a new album with the electronic Irish band Empire State Human. The collaboration and entirely self penned album due to see the light of day in the new year, with new tracks 'Sound Of The Download' and 'Low Life' already written and sounding positively Massive.
New single 'Eighth Day' an electronic cover of the classic Hazel O'Connor track from the 80's film/album Breaking Glass is set to be released on Halloween 31st October 2012 and released to tie in with the DVD of Hazel's Breaking Glass film being released on 1st Nov 2012. All profits from the single will be going towards helping to fund FRIENDS Farmed Animal Sanctuary in Kent, UK, a sanctuary that rescues ex farmed animals that otherwise would have been slaughtered, allowing them to live the rest of their natural days in peace, a cause that the band very much support and admire.
"In a way avant-garde band Massive Ego can't even be analysed in a normal, earthly way. And actually we feel like the genre grouping avant-garde doesn't suit them either. We think they should have their own genre .Maybe something like, electroslut clash, or eyeliner punk. Either way any band whose lead singer looks like a cross between Amanda Palmer and Voldemort has to be at least paid some attention."
