A hot track is all thats required to generate spins in the industry right now, but when an emcee puts out a hot track laced with lyrical fire, thats when the hip hop gods get excited. Newcomer Mal is hip hops answer to the creative drought suffocating radio airwaves and speaker boxes everywhere. With a penchant for word play, metaphorical use and just the right touch of school boy charm, Mal presents the total package.

While some may underestimate the Oklahoma-bred rapper, Mal doesnt take offense at those who count him out because of his hometown. We have the same struggle across the board, there are emcees everywhere, he says. He also believes growing up in the heartland afforded him the opportunity to appreciate many different cultures and styles. In Oklahoma there is definitely a Texas influence, but its really a melting pot. A lot of the influences there came from the West coast and there is East coast love as well. We do support Texas a lot and Texas supports us. A lot of Texas artists show love and come thru OK. We were jamming screw music back in 97/98, he says.

Despite his many influences, fans shouldnt expect a copycat sound from Mal. Its all about originality. Im taking hip hop back to its rawest form and doing it my way. I can only speak what I know. What he knows is the ability to compare and contrast while painting pictures through verses, in a way that only those truly gifted emcees can produce. Mals creativity combined with his strong vocal presence is sure to win the true lyrical hip hop fans over along with those who simply require a hot track and strong delivery.

Mal will drop his first release, the loaded mix tape On my back: Straight Spittin late summer 2006. Mal plans to put out several follow-up mix tapes to get audiences familiar with his unique sound before putting out an actual album. Its gonna be like a breath of fresh air to hip hop, he promises. If his remixed version of Dem Franchize Boys Oh they Gon Like Me is any indication of what is to come the hip hop gods can prepare to exhale.
