“The music that an artiste produces should somewhat be a mirror of his persona. An audience will relate to the ‘real you’ much easier than to a conjured image you are trying to portray.”

Born and raised on Jamaica’s idyllic south coast, Lydia’s ethnicity mirrors her country’s national motto, “Out Of Many, One People”, with several races melted into one smoldering pot.

She is a vocalist, an eclectic and truly talented performer and songwriter who coined a genre to categorize her music, “Jamaican Alternative Music, the infusion of Jamaican flavour (reggae and its sub-genres: ska, rocksteady and dancehall) into alternative music.”

The former lead singer of the band, Milehigh (for three years), Lydia has performed at the Caribbean Music Expo, Harrystock and Spring Break in Negril in 2001, Oktoberfest, Ratio 3:1, Hedonism III in 2002 with Motley Crue’s lead vocalist, Vince Neil), several performances at Village Café in Kingston, the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival for two consecutive years (2002 and 2003) and The Jamaica Star Awards in 2003.

As a solo artiste, Lydia has performed and has received accolades suggesting her successfully honing her craft. The first came in the form of two Gold Certificates at the 2003 Caribbean Championships of the Performing Arts for Vocal - Pop and Vocal - Original categories and the second from articles following her debut performance to the general public as a solo artiste at Red Stripe’s Reggae Sumfest’s International Night 2003 where she served as the opening act for the Grammy Award winning artistes: Destiny’s Child and Sean Paul. “Her lithe body moving in synch with the song’s opening ‘one drop’ beat and then using a long strip of the stage from left to right as if born to do it . With long hair swinging, lips in a wide smile and her voice climbing to the heavens, Lydia Bennett opened ‘International Night’ in nothing less than a rather impressive manner.”- Extract from The Jamaica Star Online, Luscious Lydia licked Sumfest” (article attached). “Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues - Finger Lickin’ grooves:” attached, from THE DAILY OBSERVER, Monday, January 26, 2004. “Earlier, another potential diva used the opportunity to win hearts and influence minds, Lydia Bennett delivered a lissome set that was equal parts sass and class , doing justice to Norah Jones’ Don’t Know Why and impressing with an original composition Reason To Believe” (article attached). Lydia was the opening act for Grammy Award winners Cassandra Wilson, Michael McDonald and Alicia Keys.

Her lyrical content, melodies and stage performance are embodied by the expression of a hyper-extension of the reality she has experienced with an air of drama added for flair and entertainment value. “There is so much that you can express in your music, things may be taken on a metaphorical level allowing for statements to be interpreted in many ways, as opposed to simply an obvious, literal level.”

Currently, Lydia is writing and recording her debut album and is seeking interested producers to work with. Her musical aspirations are not limited to being a vocalist, performer and songwriter. This multi-faceted personality aspires to become a producer as she believes this will increase the longevity of and add another dimension to her career in music.
