LKN

LKN is One woman, Lauren Kathryn Newman on album writing and playing all music and instruments.
She is also a session drummer, audio engineer (live/studio) for hire and permanent member of improv metal duo Palo Verde.
However, when performing her solo material live LKN is Lauren on drums, guitar and vocals, and a host of guests on instruments, usually in the form of a power trio. Currently featuring Terrica Kleinknecht on drums and guitar, and Bobby Dezfulli on bass guitar.
Coming 2012 a new EP and an out of town recording session. LKN is working on multiple recordings right now and readying a string of summer NW dates.
The cobbled together 6 song home sketch recordings as split 12'' Vinyl record release with Phratry artist Knife The Symphony is now available.
The six songs are from July 2008 - October 2009. Each song written tracked at a different time between those dates. All of them, until now disparate songs, spontaneously created and captured with no place to call home. The songs came in to existence as they always do for Lauren, just for the fun of it. Instead of playing chess or going on another run, Lauren often tracks spontaneous jams as an activity. Usually only one or two people will ever hear these recordings. Then they are tucked away, and soon forgotten. Lauren has hundreds of these jem/jams stored away. When Jerry Dirr of Phratry approached her with the offer of making a 12'' split with Knife The Symphony, she decided it was time to wake up, wipe off the cob webs and put some of these jams out there. Look for this split November 22nd 2010! Limited pressing of 500 copies. Will also include a digital download of the record. Mastering for vinyl performed by Jason Ward of Chicago Mastering Service. Totally DIY ''make the best recordings you can with the gear you've got'' style home recordings.
Lauren has toured the United States extensively since the year 2001 through year 2007. She's played many festivals including sxsw and Ladyfest.
She'd love to play overseas, but does not have the money or the agents to back her on this long wished for journey.
Lauren has four albums out on Greyday Productions of Portland Oregon : "In The Leap Year" 2004; "January 2005. Ten Songs" 2005; "Postulate I" 2006; "Postulate II" 2007.
Postulate II has been issued on Vinyl LP By PHRATRY RECORDS. The limited pressing (300) comes with a bonus EP CD.
In February 2008, Lauren tracked basics for "No Smoking Room" at Audible Alchemy of Portland OR with Christina Files as engineer. Since then Lauren has added vocals to these recordings at her home studio, Small Servant Audio. The albums fate is currently not determined. Someone please put this record out!.

A Brief Artist History
Lauren began drumming in punk bands in her hometown of Pensacola Florida at the age of 15.
She drummed for the underground surf-rock sensations, the PROSTHETICS.
She began writing songs at 18. And started 4tracking (on all instruments) 3-5 songs a day for 5 years.
LKN started playing some of her 4track songs live under the band name STELLAMARIE, and then changed the name to her initials, LKN in 2002.
STELLAMARIE recorded one album for the now defunct Four States Fair Records of Austin Texas. The label was run by Rob and Steph of Adult Rodeo.
Lauren drummed for ADULT RODEO for a spring 2002 tour.
She drummed for BELLINI in the NW on their fall 2005 tour.
She continues to drum for bands, currently including PALO VERDE (formerely stickitin), LES TRESVINOS of Portland Oregon, KAIA WILSON & JENNY HOYSTON (PACKER), and 1994.
Lauren is a restless , tireless, driven, passionate performer and musician. Please come see her and her beloved band when she is playing live in your area.
