2010:
(Little Volcanoes are a 4 piece, Manchester based guitar band fast becoming well known for their intense and dramatic live performances and as 'addictive as crack' sing along choruses. Below is a summary of the bands life so far with recent events at the top going back in time to the bottom.) Updated 25/04/2011
2011 has been all about recording new songs with even loftier ambitions in terms of new song ideas and production! The band wrote two songs 'Drum Roll at the Cash Machine' and 'Plastic Gold' just before Xmas that caused a lot of excitement within the band and that they felt recording them at Foel Studios in Wales (used by bands such as The Stranglers, Klaxons, The Fall and owned by Dave Anderson ex – Hawkwind) would be the best thing for the bands career next. Those two songs have now been recorded with 'Drum Roll at the Cash Machine' causing a real buzz with their growing fan base and promoters. The next release in line for the band is with the anthemic 'Plastic Gold'! This song will be used as the spear head song for the bands new mini album due to be ready for the summer!
2010 also saw Little Volcanoes play their first Festival appearance at the Willowman Festival (which included The Orb, Tom Hingley and the Lovers and Dreadzone) Also, interviews with Salford City radio, North Manchester FM and airplay with plenty of college radio stations around the country means their first single 'Scars' has brought the band to a much wider audience.
Since new year, 2010 has brought many exciting developments for the band including new release 'Scars' getting championed by BBC Manchester (with Sam Walker playing 'Scars' on her show for 5 weeks consecutively) culminating in a live acoustic session on the Sam Walker show in March. Their relationship with the BBC grew stronger when the band were asked to play the prestigious BBC introducing night in support of another true up and coming Manchester band Orphan Boy in July! .
Another high light of 2009 saw the band play the historic 'Ritz Ballroom' to 250 people. A dream achieved for singer Phil Quinn as he used to watch the bands from his position as bar tender in 2002, vowing one day to grace the same stage as The Smiths and Madonna once did.
2009 also saw the band play some shows of real excitement when they supported Mark Morriss from the Bluetones in Manchester (Both Mark Morriss and his manager coming over to speak with band afterwards to congratulate them on such a great show) and The Maps festival, where they played to a large and very appreciative crowd at the well known Night and Day Cafe.
2009 was the year that the band started to play more shows in Manchester while they also started to venture outside of Manchester playing some electrifying gigs in Leeds, Oldham, Blackburn and Leeds while making very useful contacts with promoters along the way.
Another show of importance was a celebratory gig in the uber cool Manchester venue, Bighands! A regular stop off for all touring bands big and small who play the Academy next door, making it a hot bed for the Manchester music scene. On this occasion, Little Volcanoes rocked through a 1hour set to a packed room of around 175 people.
