The Kingston, Jamaica born, Lincoln "Sugar" Barrington Minott is one of the great figures of Reggae music, and is fully justified to carry the status as the "Godfather of Dancehall".

In the early 1970's Sugar Minott went to Studio One Recording Studios.

By laying vocal tracks over the original tapes from the 60's, rather than using a live band, he caused a revolution in the sound that brought a new style to Reggae music--Dancehall.

Sugar started his musical journey by entering talent contests in his youth.

After he finished school he began selling records and formed his own sound system Black Roots, which was eventually to develop into the mighty Youthman Promotion.

In 1969 Sugar became part of the African Brothers, dropping several successful singles that were an early example of the Rastafari movement's influence on the Jamaican music scene.

Sugar has released a number of superb albums that he produced himself that established him as a bonafide worldwide Reggae star.

These include "Ghetto-ology", "Bitter Sweet", "African Girl", "Music For Roots Lovers", "Sweeter Than Sugar", "Dancehall Showcase" and "Black Roots".

Sugar continues to record and tour across the globe and he has released over 60 albums to date.Sugar Minott remains the true, original dancehall Reggae star and continues to be an inspiration and mentor to many up and coming artistes in Jamaica and across the world.
