T H E S T A N D O F F : 4 SONG EP OUT NOW

Le Reno Amps are back and provide their latest slab of Teenage Fanclub meets Johnny Cash gorgeousness with attitude, ‘The Stand Off’. Like all great rock it’s the perfect pairing of classic melody and foot-tap-inducing scuzz guitar. We hope you’ll love the catchiness of the melodies and the groove of the rhythm.

Since the release of ‘Tear It Open’, their third album no less, the band have attracted glowing reviews in both underground fanzines and the mainstream press, blending their unique brand of chugging and chiming Caledonian pop and malevolent mariachi thrashing. Recorded at The Delgado’s Chem19 studios with Andy Miller (Mogwai, Sons & Daughters, Scout Niblett), ‘The Stand Off’ is one of the many highlights on the record, where defiance meets insecurity perfectly and provides the perfect backdrop for Scott Maple’s yells of ‘I’ve got my pride’. The song concludes by launching from stadium amp stacks into a deranged heavy metal riff via computer noise meltdown.

Elsewhere The Stand Off EP boasts three new recordings, ‘Golden Futures’, acknowledges the band’s love of the late great Johnny Cash whilst retaining their own harmonious stamp. The eerie lament ‘Liars’ unfurls the depths of the quartet’s effortless vocal harmonies with a woozy, folky feel. The band then close proceedings with a cover of the Beck classic ‘Rowboat’. Having recently recorded the song for the BBC, the band enjoyed playing it so much they thought they’d record their own version. Al Nero explains, “We’re all big fans of Beck’s early stuff so it seemed like a winning choice, and Johnny Cash opened his first ‘American Recording’ album with this song so it’s win win.”

On top of all this, the band created their DIY music video series, ‘Flick It Open’. LRA are making a video for each song from the new album and releasing them on the first Monday of each month. Yes they’re the most credible and life affirming rockabilly-pop band going, but check them out with a camcorder – yes Ken Loach, they are good aren’t they.

THE ALBUM OUT NOW

Le Reno Amps were born of sorrow in the North East of Scotland. In 2004 they moved south to Glasgow to spread their joyous word, play lots of shows and write lots of songs. In 2008 they joined the ranks of Devon’s finest musical amalgam, The Drift Collective.

With rumours of violent band disarray and near death behind them, Drift records proudly presents Le Reno Amps new album Tear It Open, blending the LRA brand of sun soaked Scottish Indie with some hell-raising ramshackle Country. It’s perhaps a yearning for the sun that doesn't always shine in their hometown of Glasgow but just one spin of Tear It Open is enough to know that this is a chunk of fun capable of warming the cockles and stirring the soul of even the most miserable bugger.

Recorded last year with Andy Miller (Mogwai, Sons & Daughters, Scout Niblett), and supported by the Scottish Arts Council, Tear It Open marks the beginning of a new chapter in Le Reno Amps story. After 2007’s downbeat but critically praised album, So For Your Thrills…, this high-energy release manages to reconfigure their musical landscape with creative melodies and a harmonic upbeat sound with both frontmen Scott Maple and Al Nero swapping lead vocals and trading harmonies with a certain joie de vivre. This is a band that unlike the majority of skinny-jeaned, cardigan-wearing lost boys on the indie scene, have a clear sense of their own identity and stamp it firmly all over Tear It Open.
