Lauren Smith

Prolific songwriting team—and childhood friends—Lauren Smith and Alex Schechter formed Greene Girl in 2009. Mixing elements from pop melodies and ambient jazz, and drawing inspiration from their respective Brooklyn neighborhoods (Fort Greene and Greenpoint), they dreamed up the world of Greene Girl as an expression of those beautiful spaces. The warmth and minimal sound of Greene Girl is at home in intimate coffee shops, as well as on the larger stage at mainstream venues. In the past year, Greene Girl has performed at The Mercury Lounge, Pete’s Candy Store, 92YTribeca, and a showcase at CMJ 2009. Since August, they have been installed in the lobby at the Gershwin Hotel, playing every Wednesday morning to a mix of curious hotel guests and local admirers. Currently, they are launching "Songs To Order," an interactive media project in which listeners supply the ideas, and Greene Girl writes the songs. Their upcoming EP Little Rooms will be released in December 2010. GG♥U!
