I've been playing the mandolin since i saw John Moore with bluegrass etc play in out local theatre when i was 14. My parents ran local sessions and I had dabbled with a few instruments before that, but after a few months of nagging Mum caved and let me have a mandolin. I was self taught until I joined Newcastle University's folk degree, which I graduated from in 2006 having made a lot of great friends including my bandmates in The Shee.
'The Shee' www.theshee.com is an all-female folk band.We play a mixture of traditional scottish, irish and american material, and lots of our own compositions. Feel lucky to be a part of it!
In 2007 the Finnish arts council hasgave me the opportunity to work with Tuomas Logren, a guitarist and dobro player who lives in Helsinki. We have a shared love of oldtime and bluegrass music, and mainly focus on writing our own instrumentals which take inspiration from traditional finnish, american and british music. He also introduced me to red wine.very important obviously.
The Laura-Beth Salter Trio is a new band with Lucy Williams on Double Bass and James Dewdney on guitar an vocals. Our music is highly influenced by Bluegrass, Western Swing and old acoustic blues. We like to sing about beer, gin, coffeeall the important world issues.
Have recently depped for Frigg, ww.myspace.com/friggtheband on their US tour, including an appearance on The Prairie Home Companion and Womad 07, and also been depping ocasionally for Luke Plumb in Shooglenifty.
