Rick Chavez and DJ Sloe Poke of Los Angeles founded la Paz in 1997. They met in high school in the early 90's at an inner-city open mic talent show. Sloe was a sound man in training and Rick entered the show as a performer. Although Rick was by far the youngest MC in the show, he came away with a second place finish. In a series of eight recording sessions, the crew created their first CD "Earwigs", an album full of truth-soaked social consciousness. Each session began with a clean slate and ended with no less than two songs complete from scratch to final mix. Upon completion of "Earwigs" in 1999, the group toured for three years.

Audiences and critics alike commended La Paz for their on-stage presence and performing prowess. While on the "Earwigs" tour, La Paz released a seven track EP entitled "New and Unreleased".

A new chapter began of the La Paz story in 2003 when Memo joined the crew. He has definitive and direct style of rhyme, which enables the music of La Paz to lift and flow to many distinct levels.

In 2005, La Paz released their third album entitled "The Bakery". This twelve track album, which in contrast to the politically driven "Earwigs", is an up-spirited, party driven album featuring songs with a unique outlook on ordinary life. "Love Song" is an interesting track mixing the club vibe with a politically driven anti-Bush message. Another track titled "Love on the Run" looks at the one night stand culture of musicians on the road. The apocalyptic "Mass Extinction" stands on the promise of the natural state of the planet. "The Bakery" can be purchased directly from La Paz at a show near you.Enjoy.
