LADY GEMINI

Biography

Hello, my name is Zabrina Lockett better known as Lady Gemini. I was born in Muskegon, MI. I have, however, spent most of my life going back and forth between the south and the north. This is due to the fact that my mother and my grandparents were born in Atlanta, GA. while my father was born in Meridian, MS. So, when I became of age my two children and I moved south so that I could pursue my music career, thereby establishing Atlanta, GA. as my second home.

One thing about me is that I have always been able to take advantage of opportunities that seem to somehow come my way. It was truly a blessing for me to have been placed into the presence of this brother who made beats. I mean he made tight beats and we all know that good beats are hard to come by these days. My motto for life is “Don’t talk about it, be about it”. I combined this thought process along with my skills to “run game and hustle” so that I could get what I wanted. Possessing those “Thick Thighs & A**” never did hurt a sister! After a while I had full reign to use any beat of my choice. So, with the music in place I began to concentrate on doing the major part of my work, writing my own lyrics thereby creating my own songs.

Another thing about me is that I have never been a quitter. Once I start something I always finish it, or at least will die trying! It is my goal and agenda to conquer anything that I set out to do. That’s simply the kind of person that I am. So, anytime somebody tries to hate on me or hate on what I am doing they only motivate me even harder to reach my goals. I’ve had DJ’s who hate my music…but it’s all good. Not everybody is going to like what I do. But I must remain true to myself, true to my artistic skills, and true to all of my fans and supporters who believe in me and appreciate my vision for success. Keep in mind that you should never, ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. All you have to do is believe in yourself and stay true to your dreams. It’s never too late for you to have your dreams fulfilled, especially here in America! But be realistic about it. It’s going to take hard work and you must have the ability to accept bad breaks and rejection. After all, if you don’t grind then you’ll never shine!

My music basically represents the places where I’ve lived. Therefore, it consists of a midwest mix with that dirty south slang. A lot of people seem to love my style. When I first hit the street scene in the A T L by doing the open mic thing and shows at the clubs people were really feeling me. At the same time I began to really feel myself and began to see that I really had something truly worth sharing with others. As a result, I stepped my game up a notch. I was blessed by having another brother come into my life who also believed in my artistic ability. As a result, I ended up getting a minivan and “pimped that thang out” with a van rap consisting of all of my pictures. In this way I could really let the people know Lady Gemini really is. I also ended up getting my own recording studio thereby allowing me to record anytime I felt like it. I then moved forward to officially create my own record label, Quad Knock Records.

My whole thing is that I simply want to be a mouthpiece for the females out here. The brothers tend to act like we don’t have anything to talk about. But I’m here to let them know that we have a whole lot of “sh*t” to get off of our chests. So believe that I’m hitting it from every angle. I can be that stripper ghetto chick (“Thick Thighs & Ass”, “I Know You Love Dat”) to that chick who lets you know why she and her peeps have to hustle in the ghetto (“The Struggle”) to that talented sister who simply wants to get paid for her artistic and creative skills (“Stack Chips”) to that “thuggish, gangsta” chick who simply has to handle her business when people don’t want to be respectful and do right by me (“We Don’t Play”, “Cock & Aim”) or to that simple, fine, sassy sexy lady who know she’s got it going on (“Sexy”).

I’m just trying to keep it real at all times and that’s what I try to stress in my music. I do, however, stretch the truth just a bit to keep things interesting. After all, doesn’t everyone? The fact is that just like the brothers gotta do what they gotta do, we sisters have to put it down the same way or better if we are going to truly maintain for ourselves.

While growing up I’ve listened to several hip-hop artists whom have shaped and molded me into developing my own image, style, and bold attitude. The one whom I love the most is Lil Kim. This is because when she first came out and let the world know that she was here she gave it to you RAW! She reminds me a lot of myself. If I had come out before her I will have done it the same way…simply keeping it REAL and keeping it RAW. A lot of people simply hate on her because they want to be like her but they don’t have the guts to put it out there the way she does. She is an icon in her own right and people need to recognize it. I also have much respect and love for Queen Latifah because she has gone from rapper, to actress, to having her own talk show, and then to singing. She has accomplished a lot in her career. She’s another great icon. I have also been impressed and influenced by other female rappers like Trina and Foxy Brown.

I’ve also been influenced by the following male rappers: DMX, Nas, Lil Wayne, M.O.B., Ice Cube, The Game, Snoop Dogg, Trick Daddy, 3Gmafia, Jeezy, and most of all Ludacris…just to name a few. It’s a shame that I could go on and on naming the male rappers but only a few female rappers. And that’s why I’m here. You brothers better get ready because we are going to be kicking down doors in 2006! It’s on!!!!

Whether a message is coming from someone who is sexy, thuggish, rough, hardcore, male, female, child, adult, young, old, or whatever…it doesn’t matter. What’s important is the message, a raw message, a true message. Always remember to never judge a book by its cover because “looks can be deceiving”, and in this case “Looks Are Deceiving”.

Holla back at a b*tch…
