Harry Heath's 1897 Field Recordings - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 19, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
One of the most exciting finds presented our forthcoming box set "Waxing the Gospel": A collection of previously unidentified cylinders that we discovered were actually field recordings captured in August 1897 at the annual camp meeting in Ocean Grove, New Jersey. Captured by New York optician and amateur recordist Henry A. Heath, the cylinders feature a number of evangelists not known previously to have made records, most notably hymn writer Fanny Crosby. In her first and only recording, she recites a then-unpublished poem, "Three Score Years and Ten." "Waxing the Gospel" will be released on September 30, 2016.
