LABJACD (say "Lab-Jacked") is a monster 9 piece band that's been

working Australia's dance floors and festivals since 2005. Known for

their powerful sound and a guns blazin' live set they have won loyal

fans and respect wherever they've performed. Not pure hip-hop, not a

straight funk band, not exactly world music, LABJACD's sound grew

organically from the diverse backgrounds and experiences of its

founding members. The three MC's who front the band are from a Chilean

background, their families fleeing the nightmare of the Pinochet

dictatorship during the 1970's and '80's. Parts of the show

incorporate Andean music (including the use of traditional instruments) and the

influence of latin styles such as salsa and cumbia can be felt

throughout. The resulting sound is urban, rootsy and uncontrived;

music that is genuinely of its time and place.

LABJACD have rocked major festivals both nationally and

internationally, including WOMADelaide, the Falls Festival, the

Woodford Folk Festival, Perth & Adelaide Festivals, Live en Août (New

Caledonia), the Bellingen Global Carnival and the Queenscliff Music

Festival. They have staged their own shows at popular Australian

music venues such as the Corner, the Zoo, the Espy and the East

Brunswick Club, and graced the same stage as MC Eternia (Canada),

Nickodemus (USA), Los Van Van (Cuba), The Herd and True Live. The

bands broad appeal is evident – they are equally at home alongside

Australia's premier hiphop groups as amongst some of the best world

music artists from around the globe. LABJACD has been featured on

JTV, a music programme on ABC TV produced by Triple J Radio as well as

on a television broadcast of WOMADelaide on ABC2.

LABJACD are now touring their second studio album "Words Out". Whilst

thematically darker and more overtly political than their earlier

material, this album will still bump your speakers like a lowrider on

nitrous. Come and hang out with us, share a drink and dance till those

sneakers are smokin'…

Words Out (released Apr 11th 2009) plus LABJACD's two previous releases Vote With Your Feet released (2006) and a self-titled EP (2005) are both available through stores, on iTunes or from www.labjacd.com.
