Music for 6 electric guitars

Japan Tour
November 2011

Composer, guitarist and eccentric multi-talent Anders Lauge Meldgaard brings his newest and most epic creation to Japan: The Guitar Sextet!

Following his successful solo-project Frisk Frugt (nominated for the Nordic Music Prize in 2011) and years of touring with rock-group Kirsten Ketsjer, Anders Lauge Meldgaard has put the full force of his creative power into the mysteries of the electric guitar.

The idea for the sextet was born when Meldgaard traveled in Mali and Burkina Faso, encountering the local music. Much impressed by the simplicity, discipline and especially the tight musical collaboration of the members of the groups he witnessed, Meldgaard decided to explore a similar strategy for the electric guitar. The result takes minimal compositions, based on extended repetition and microscopic grooves, as a departure point for climactic improvisations. Invoking, perhaps, as much the minimalism of Steve Reich as the cathartic rhythms of Konono No. 1, approaching even psychedelia.

Gathering a team of highly respected guitarists from the Danish avant-garde and rock scenes, the sextet contains an impressive amount of talent. The group premiered at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival in 2010 and performed again November of the same year. For 2011 plans are for concerts in Berlin as well as Denmark, including the Wundergrund festival in Copenhagen.

Anders Lauge Meldgaard is a founding member of the Yoyooyoy collective, along with Yoke & Yohs and other projects. He is part of Slütspürt, co-founder of the eclectic big band Den Nørrejyske Ø's Stororkester For Opløst Mønster Musik and has performed at the Roskilde Festival, JazzJuice and toured both Europe and USA. エリオット・シャープ ×臼井康浩 Guitar DUO CD
