Ivana Kindl was born on January 18 in Pozega. She began her musical education when she was nine years old (preliminary musical school – instrument harmonica). Her first musical idol was the very popular girl singer Tajci, but as Ivana grow older her connection with soul music became apparent. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross became her new musical idols, and former E.T. vocalist Vanna became her favourite Croatian singer. Ivana entered few local musical competitions as her belief in own vocal abilities grew, and soon she reaped the benefits of such belief. She won the amateur award «Zlatni glas zlatne doline» two years in a row, and the next step was to enrol in «Turbo limach show», a very popular children TV contest. Her rendition of Mariah Carey's «Without You» was a big success. Another non-professional TV appearance, another win: this time in the show «Pljesak molim», where she performed Vanna's song «Ja ti priznajem». This was also her first contact with the people from show business, but to no avail.
In 1997 Ivana moved to Osijek to study law, and she also met a band «Zvucni zid». With her first band Ivana performed on many shows for two years, after that she moved to the Croatian capital Zagreb. The reason was a call from Jurica Leikauff, a well-known keyboard player from the popular group Prljavo kazaliste, who drafted Ivana for a vocalist in a group «Funky Town». The band performed cover versions of popular songs, and had a lot of gigs, especially in Zagreb. It was this period that shaped her and encouraged Ivana to step into a solo career. As a vocalist in «Funky Town» she met a lot of people involved in music business, and as a result Ivana recorded radio and TV commercials. On the set of her first TV commercial she met hip-hop and r'n'b producer Baby Dooks, also one half of successful hip-hop duet «Bolesna Braca (Sick Rhyme Sayazz)». Ivana always wanted to perform r'n'b songs, and meeting with Baby Dooks was perfect pairing, since prior to their co-operation r'n'b was almost non-existent in Croatian music scene.
In the meantime she signed the contract with the record label Menart, and began preparing her debut album «Trenutak istine» («The moment of truth»), together with Baby Dooks, and producer Silvio Pasaric, author of text Inge Privora, and Miro Vidovic, owner of the Morris Studio. Ivana's debut became the first Croatian r'n'b album: a new trend was born. As the singles from the first album («Da li zeli», «Od svih si bolji») began to climb in the charts, Ivana was nominated for a Porin award (local version of Grammy award) as the best newcomer. Ivana performed on Dora 2003, Croatian contest for the Eurovision song festival, and her status as one of the biggest new stars was reached. Her last single from the debut album «Ja necu biti kao druge» was also the biggest hit so far, peaking on many radio charts, coupled with excellent video clip. Her extraordinary vocal style brought her to attention of Ivica Krajac, author of the musical «The myth of the labyrinth».
To end a successful year Ivana needed one more hit; it came in November 2003. It was her first single from the ‘Moj Svijet' second album in April 2004. «Superjaka» became one of the biggest hits of 2003, and it was apparent since it's premiere Zadarfest features more serious and stylish performance. Ivana Kindl matured into sexier and sophisticated singer with unbelievable vocal power. The change of image was very positive for her popularity, thanks to stylist Robert Sever, hairdresser Petra Granic, and make up artist Sasa Jokovic.
The second album is more varied then the first, because of the contribution of three different producers: Silvio Pasaric, Boris Durdevic and Shot. It will be recorded in Morris studio as well as debut album, and it will feature guest appearance of young classical cellist Ana Rucner. Her third album is ready to be released. One single already hit the charts since the release in September. The album is a mix of catchy popsongs and very steady r'n'b songs. Again, her vocal performances are extremely strong. She shows every week on stage her live abilities and things cannot remain unnoticed.
