With a sound that is so familiar, yet so new, the music of Kevin Regan bursts through the speakers like a ray of light that has been dimmed for many ages. This 24 year old from Nutley, New Jersey combines the best of his influences of past and present, crafting pop/rock music that bridges a generation gap seldom crossed today. "I grew up listening to The Beatles, The Bee Gees, The Beach Boys, all these amazing groups. And as I got older I just kept discovering more and more. If it's possible to be addicted to music, I am." It is this passion that attracts industry insiders such as Ken Sherman, who said, "I have been in the music industry for quite a few years. I can usually spot a talent, even if I don't particularly like the style of music. In Kevin's case, however, I love the style as well as the songs. Kevin has wonderful pop sensibilities and shows a maturity way beyond his years."
That maturity that so many speak of has never been more evident than on Kevin's newest, soon to be released album, "REINCARNATED." Although it is his fifth album, it's an album of many firsts for Kevin. Written and recorded in both Paris, France as well as his own home studio in New Jersey, this is Kevin's first internationally recorded project. This album also marks the first time Kevin has worked with an outside producer, pairing up with Joe DiMarco (of the Fugees.) Together, with top studio musicians, they set out to combine their Pop/R&B talents to create tracks that showcase a sophisticated new sound for Kevin. "Going to France and working with Joe DiMarco was a great experience" says Kevin. "Both of us brought so much to the table and the tracks we did there perfectly complimented the songs I was working on back home. It was a perfect match."
From the classic, rock and roll sound of the title track, REINCARNATED, and the Pop/Rock feel of FALLEN IN LOVE, to the techno-rock tinged REANA, it's clear that part of what makes Kevin's music so unique is his willingness to be a leader, not a follower. "I try to make every song different from the last." says Kevin. "I strive to fill my albums with nothing but singles. It's an old Beatles trick." The appeal of this new album, REINCARNATED, is not only the "all-thriller, no filler" approach Kevin takes to his music, but also the sheer honesty of the songs themselves. "With this project, I wanted to create an emotional concept album. Every song on this album comes from some sort of experience I've had in my life." Kevin explained. "The music on this album shows where I've been and, more importantly, where I'm going."
To your average 24 year old, the pressures and pitfalls of this business would be too much to handle. But this is nothing new for Kevin. He wrote his first song at the age of six and has continued ever since. He grew up on the stage, performing in the coffeehouses and clubs of New Jersey, covering songs twice his age as well as playing his original songs. It was these songs that Kevin would later record, releasing his first four albums (Great Expectations, Surrender, The Other Side of A Lie and Phase I.) And with his fifth album, REINCARNATED, he shows no signs of stopping. "I'm just getting started." he says. "This is just the next step. If you want to know me, just listen."
