As a child, Kevin Haskins began drumming on flowerpots and kitchen pots and pans, eventually moving on to a real drum kit. During his time at Art School, he attended a life changing performance by The Sex Pistols and The Clash at London’s 100 club. As a direct result, he and his brother David formed a Punk band called the Submerged Tenth. The band was short-lived, but in 1978, Kevin was asked to join Bauhaus. Bauhaus combined a number of eclectic influences (punk, glam, funk and dub) to create a very innovative, dark and atmospheric sound which appealed to many looking for something new in the wake of punk's collapse. Bauhaus soon attracted a large cult following and their first single, Bela Lugosis' Dead, was used for the dramatic opening sequence of Tony Scotts, The Hunger.Their music proved to be very inspirational, and artists such as Radiohead, Massive Attack, Janes Addiction, Gnarls Barkley, Billy Corgan, Interpol and Bjork have noted them as being a major influence.
In 1985, Daniel Ash formed his first side project, Tones on Tail, and he asked Haskins to play drums. During this time Kevin introduced sampling to the group, recording snippets of unusual sounds and spinning them in to the mix. Again, Tones On Tail’s experimental music has been lauded as being a major influence on many successful, contempory artists.
In 1985 Kevin co-founded Love and Rockets, who enjoyed instant success with their first single, Ball Of Confusion, which went Gold. They went on to further success and in 1989, they released "So Alive," which reached number three in The Billboard Charts. It was at this time that the group became involved with the underground acid house movement, which later spawned electronica. Their groundbreaking album “Hot Trip To Heaven” went on to inspire many artists in this field.
In 1992, Kevin scored his first movie entitled, The Prom, directed By Steven Shainberg (The Secretary, Fur).
In 1998, Haskins reunited with Bauhaus for an extremely popular world tour, at which time they were approached to write a song for the movie Heavy Metal 2000. The tour was a sell out, attracting a whole new generation of fans, which is a great testament to their timeless music.
In 1999, Kevin began writing music for an array of independent films, video games, and television shows. In 2002, his use of ambient electronics combined with orchestrations caught the attention of renowned director Michael Mann for the score of his CBS drama Robbery Homicide Division.
Since Robbery Homicide Division, music by Haskins has appeared in CSI, Third Watch, The Blair Witch Project, Cold Case, The Road To Stardom With Missy Elliott, The Butterfly Effect, The 2004 Billboard Music Awards, CSI Miami, Party Monster, and many other television shows and movies. In addition to licensing tracks, he scored "Employee of the Month", starring Matt Dillon and Christina Applegate.
Bauhaus reunited again in 2005 to play the Coachella music and arts festival in California. This single performance has already attained legendary status and the band went on to complete another successful world tour.
Kevin has now returned to working in film and TV and has recently completed the score for the feature film, "Species The Awakening" for MGM.
