If you take the profound spiritual revelations of Bob Marley, pair it with the smooth rolling vocals of Garnet Silk, and meld them together with the soulful vibrations of Neo-Soul and the energy of Dancehall, you have a fusion of classical style, sound and delivery in a fresh, new and eclectic package, Keven Blaq.

Hailing from the Whitehall area in St. Andrews, Jamaica, Keven is destined for greatness. Growing up and listening to influential artists such as Bob Marley and Peter Tosh helped me to build on my musical foundation. Around age 10 I can remember listening to my parents playing Jacob Miller on their record player and I would just listen to the music. I didnt understand exactly what he was talking about, but seeing my parents reaction as they danced to his song made me want to see the same reaction on peoples faces when I sing.

Living next door to legendary dancehall deejay Buju Banton and having family friends like Sanchez visiting on a regular basis allowed Keven to explore music in his younger days, Performing for his friends at Swallowfield All Age School was just the beginning of the kind of perfomer that Keven Blaq would become.

Keven began his career in music as an accomplished songwriter, working with a diverse scope of artist from the spiritual roots singer Luciano to the hard hitting styled deejay the chuck fender. Being a member of the Solar Family, Keven also had the opportunity to perform with artists such as Gyptian, I-Wayne, Bascom X, and Fantan Mojah. These performers he considers to be his mentors. He also cites Alton Black, peter tosh, Terry Ganzie, Garnett Silk and Bob Marley as formative musical influences.

Keven has been honing his skills and his musical dexterity is what separates him from other artists. What I see and what I feel, I sing. I see my music being the voice of the people, and in order for the people to truly get the music and to really feel it, they have to be able to relate to it.

He uses different rhythmic rifts to punctuate his socially and morally conscious, sometimes introspective lyrics. Listening to the energetically spiritual Never Fail I, the dancehall tinged melody The Way You Move or the Black Scorpion dub-plate Champion you will sample the genius that is Keven Blaq.

Out of many contrasting styles, Keven created a unique blend of music, complementary to any and every style of classic and contemporary Jamaican music. Where some would use a canvas to mix different colors together and create a masterpiece, I use music.

Keven Blaqs highly anticipated debut album is coming in 2009.
