KERGYMA COMMUNITY CHOIR

Kergyma Proclaiming or Proclamation of the gospel Jesus Christ, with the intention to elicit the decision of faith through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

Kergyma Community Choir founded November 2001, in New Haven, Connecticut, through the vision of Arnold Johnson, a devout member of Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church and Gwendolyn Busch, also a devout member of Bethel AME Church both located in New Haven.

Kegyma Community Choir is a 35-member choir, made up of a combination of different people of faith, in the New Haven community. So what better way to continue in the lords work, but by combining different people from various churches through-out the city, to worship and praise through song, said Busch.

Both lifelong residents of New Haven County, Johnson & Busch founded the gospel ministry out of a mutual desire to do the lords work. Weve been friends for over 20 years and weve been involved in ministry together for 19 years and are both very active in our individual churches, said Johnson.

Johnson & Busch are University of Connecticut Alumnus; where their friendship developed. They are both brother & sister in historically black, Greek-lettered organization(s) Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. In college, both Johnson and Busch sung with Voices of Freedom, under the direction of Lorraine Bailey and Pastor Marichal Monts. Pastor Monts took the two students of gospel music on their 1st tour. Theyve also sung with Vernon Jones and the Gospel Explosion Workshop Choir, and Pastor Marichal Monts and the Celebration Community Choir, where they had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the United States and abroad.

The Co-Founders have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with gospel greats Shirley Ceasar, Richard Smallwood, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Stephen Hurd, Professor James Hall, Dr. Bobby Jones, Donald Lawrence & the Tri-City Singers, Karen Clark, Hezekiah Walker, Walter Hawkins and the King of Gospel music James Cleveland. It is no wonder that Kergyma Community Choirs stage presence is so polished and professionally displayed. Members of Kergyma Community Choir and Co-Founders Arnold Johnson and Gwen Busch also did a stint as backround singers for Grammy Award winner, Pop Sensation Barry Manilow as well.

Johnson says, as Christians, you are mandated to not only witness to the unsaved, but to those who are saved, but are close to giving up. Sometimes we need to revive each other in this thing called holiness. God has a plan for each of us and we need to exercise our faith in knowing that he is always by our side and that he will never leave you nor forsake you.
