KARI JESS



Khari Watkins a.k.a. Kari Jess, born November 5, 1981, is a die-hard lover of music. This dynamic and vibrant artiste showed interest in music from as young as age 4. During his infant years he would sing along to songs on the radio. But it is his time at High School which helped to foster his talent. He would engage in dj clashes with other students; ‘riding’ on rhythms created by beating desks, pencils, and pens. In 1998 while he was in 5th form he formed the group Mega Links. Mega Links was a dancehall group that comprised of mostly djs in which he was the only singJ. After the group broke up in 2002 due to migration and disagreements Khari went solo. In spite of the relative popularity of the group, the transition from group member to solo artiste was not difficult for him. From 2000 he has been writing lyrics for big name artistes such as Wayne Marshall and Daville to name a few. It was not too long after the split that Khari started to get recognition from working at Bigship Recording Studio, and after doing the song Haffi tight on the Red Bulls and Guiness rhythm. He attributes his success not only to himself but to his management team as well from Showtime Marketing. Persons mostly compare him with singJs but he would like to think of his style as being unique. Khari breaks down music to a science – flow, lyrics, and pattern are essential elements to a good song.
