Schon das Debut-Album von Julia A. Noack wurde von der Presse als ein ausgereiftes, nuancenreiches, bezaubernd schönes Songwriteralbum mit Langzeitcharakter gelobt - im Mai 2010 hat die in Berlin lebende Musikerin nun ihr zweites Album, 69.9, auf den Markt gebracht.
Seit ihrem Erstlingswerk hat Julia A. Noack weiter an ihrer Musik gearbeitet, immer auf der Suche nach neuen Einflüssen und Erfahrungen. 69.9 zeugt von diesem Suchen und Finden, ist geprägt von Aufbruch und Dynamik. Kritiker inspiriert das neue Werk zu Vergleichen mit Aimee Mann, Nick Drake, Cat Power, Suzanne Vega und Sophie Hunger.
Spannung und Veränderung sind auf dem gesamten Album spürbar. Kamen Julia A. Noacks Songs auf der ersten Platte eher im modernen Singer-Songwriter-Look daher, werden mit 69.9 neue Facetten sichtbar. Immer noch geht diese unverwechselbare Stimme direkt unter die Haut, ist eindringlich und zwingend. Aber der Gesang ist nun spröder, die Gitarren sperriger, die Texte, Kompositionen und Arrangements experimenteller. Man hört verstärkt Einflüsse aus dem Indie-Bereich; gezielt eingesetzte elektronische Sounds brechen das Akustische immer wieder auf. Und: Man hört die Band. Mit einer Handvoll exzellenter Berliner Musiker, die sie zum Teil auch bei ihren zahlreichen Live-Konzerten begleiten, hat Julia A. Noack im Studio ihres neuen Labels Timezone ein Album eingespielt, das über das klassische Singer-Songwriter-Image hinauswächst.
Nach dem Release des „Best-Of“-Albums (CD und 12“-Vinyl) bei clearaudio im Dezember 2010, erscheint im Februar 2011 nun der düster-poppige Song Sudden Twist als Single-Auskopplung vom Album 69.9 beim Label Timezone. Dazu gibt es zwei Remixe, von Gernot Ebenlechner (Freedom Satellite/Vienna Scientist, u.a.) und Volker Meitz (Sonar Kollektiv, Jazzanova, u.a.), ein Musikvideo von Villi Asgeirsson (Oktober Films) und natürlich eine Tour.
Mit bislang rund 60 Shows im Jahr tourt Julia A. Noack unermüdlich durch Deutschland, die Benelux-Staaten, Österreich und die Schweiz. Ihre Live-Shows spielt sie entweder alleine, im Duo, oder mit ihrer kleinen Band. Ihre Fangemeinde und auch das Interesse der Medien wachsen stetig und werden durch zahlreiche Radio- und TV-Auftritte unterstützt. Starke Bühnenpräsenz, emotionale Intensität und ihr lebhafter Umgang mit dem Publikum zeichnen ihre Konzerte aus. Egal, ob mit Kontrabass- und Percussion-Begleitung oder solo mit ihrer Gitarre und ein paar kleinen Gimmicks wie Glockenspiel oder Loop-Station - Julia A. Noacks Darbietung ist immer intensiv und authentisch und packt einen dort, wo es ein bisschen weh tut. Ihre Songs, mal kraftvoll und explosiv, mal verspielt und melancholisch haben alle eines gemeinsam: Sie gehen direkt unter die Haut, krallen sich dem Hörer unverblümt und unverschämt emotional ins Fleisch, und sind so leicht nicht mehr los zu werden, sobald sie einmal in seiner Blutbahn sind.

All those who have been wistfully waiting for Julia A. Noack’s new record have finally a good reason to be happy: In May 2010, the Berlin based musician will release her 2nd album. Her debut had already been praised by the critics as a mature, varied, enchantingly beautiful debut feature with long-term character. Since then, Julia A. Noack has continued working on her music, always searching for new influences and experiences which are the matrix for her sometimes melancholic-dark, sometimes light-footed and playful songs. Her new record attests to this searching and finding and is characterized by new departures and dynamic.
The mere title, 69.9, raises questions. Is this a radio-frequency, a measuring unit, an indication of temperature? Or is this only about the form character of these numbers? 69.9 is only one decimal place away from 70. If an arbitrary, fictive line is drawn there, we are thus in a moment of hold, of suspense, and of the uncertainty: What happens when the digits jump to 70? Which border will be crossed and is it advisable or rather dangerous to cross it?
This feel of suspense and change are inherent in the entire record. Whereas Julia A. Noack’s songs on the first album had more of a Singer/Songwriter look, 69.9 reveals new facets. This distinctive voice of hers still goes right under your skin, charms and haunts you. But the singing is a bit more edgy now, the guitars a bit more disturbing, the lyrics, compositions and arrangements more experimental. The Indie influences have gotten stronger; well used electronic elements keep breaking up the acoustic sound. And: You can hear the band. With a handful of excellent Berlin based musicians who partly accompany her also during live shows, Julia A. Noack has, in the studio of her new label Timezone, recorded an album that outgrows the classic Singer/Songwriter image. 69.9 is rich in ideas, sparkling and progressive – and has still not lost any of the soul, depth and warmth of the debut album.
