Hello there,

I'm Judith Avers. This is the part of the page that needs a bio. I just can't handle another 3rd person take on my life, so I thought I'd take the easy way out. In a nutshell:

I've been playing music for 13 (or 14?) years. I formed a band when I first started playing, named I know Jack. We were together for 6 years. After that, I went solo and have been solo ever since. I daydream about starting a very cool Tom Petty meets Neil Young meets James McMurtury meets Tom Waits meets the Jayhawks kind of rock band, but the songs never seem to come out that way.

I live in West Virginia now, but was raised in southern Kansas right next to the Oklahoma state line and just a handful of miles from Texas. I've also called Nebraska and Colorado home. I want to be a city girl, but am afraid I'm more of a country girl than not.

I just made a new album with my friend and producer, Anand Nayak. It is called Mountain and Shore. It was recorded at the Slaughterhouse Studio in MA with another friend, Mark Alan Miller. Chris Pureka, Katie Sawicki, Kristen Gass, Polly Fiveash and Anand Nayak all sang with me. I listen to all of their music on my own time, so it was a big honor to have them there.

The fabulous Sturgis Cunningham, James Armenti and Rose Sinclair made everything sound pretty.

I have spent 13 (or 14) years listening to what people have thought I should do with music. Most of the time, I slacked off and didn't take their advice. I have never pushed my other albums very hard for some reason. They (who are they?) say that you should hit the ground running and get everyone you can to listen and make a pest of yourself so that you can get yourself "discovered". I already am discovered! I'm on a computer in West Virginia drinking a smoothie and writing a bio.

I think I knew that when I released something I was really and truly proud of -professionally- I would work more passionately to get it heard. This new album of mine, Mountain and Shore, is just getting released. I don't really know what that means, but I think it has something to do with the fact that you can buy it now. And I hope you do. I am truly proud of it. There isn't one thing or one more bit of love that I could have put into it. It's what I had in me at the time and a lot of friends and community members helped me out so that I could make it.

This one, I'll be pushing. Well, maybe it will be more like a gentle nudge.

I hope you like it!

Much love,

Judith
