JJ Johnson

JJ Johnson was born in Indianapolis on January 22, 1924. He is widely recognized as the greatest trombonist of the Post swing era. During the bebop era he saved the trombone. Because of the fast tempo on Bebop, many beileved that the slide trombone could not handle the speeds, JJ single handedly changed that. JJ is famous for working with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Count Basie, and Kai Winding. During his Later years, JJ incountered many problems such as Prostate cancer and a stroke, Unable to deal with these problems, he commited suicide on Febuary 4, 2001. He will be remembered as a trombone legend.
