"I will sell at public auction the following described property on my farm located one mile east of Junland and one and one-half miles south."
I copied that from a flier given to me by my Mother, describing the time my Great Grandfather sold his farm to move to California. He packed up his wife and daughter and drove to Santa Ana where he spent the rest of his life. I was 12 when he passed on.
My father was born in Tulsa Oklahoma and his mother and father moved to California with him when he was 2. He met my mother when he was 17 and Mom was 15, I was born 6 months after her 16th birthday in Bellflower California on April 22nd, 1960. By the time i was five there were 3 of us and my parents were getting divorced.
By second grade i had gone to five different schools and learned to spend most of my time alone. Mom and dad were both remarried by then and i spent a lot of time with my Grandparents and great Grandparents. My Great Grandfather was a bluegrass fiddle player, and my Grandfather an Irish Tenor.
I grew up in the 60's surrounded by people with a love for music. These folks survived the great depression, the dustbowl and WW2, not to mention the daily challenges that we all face in life. Not being afraid to pack up and move in order to find what your looking for is in my blood, a little piece of all these folks makes me what and who I am and I'm thankful for that.
I have lived in 3 different states, and as many different lands.I've met all kinds of people, fallen in and out of love, had good times and bad, my songs tell my story. More likely than not a little bit of it is your story too,
Thanks for listening,
Jim
