Born and raised in Buffalo, J.Halkz has been writing songs since 11 years old, working with a group of friends from the neighborhood. The next five years were spent perfecting his craft on stage, and in the studio producing records as well as engineering them. Growing up in the era hip hop dominated, and Independent labels laid down the blueprint for success. J.Halkz went on to release his first solo project entitled "Now or Never". Now instead of just selling them on consignment with the local mom & pop record stores. Halkz decided to find a gas station and open up shop. After selling more than 5,000 copies, hand to hand, he would start taking trips to nearby cities with nothing more than a duffle bag full of Cd's, and the intent to sell all of them. The follow up Cd "How 2 Grind" was released next, earning Halkz a trip to Diddy's own "Daddy's House Recording Studio", in New York City. There he had worked with one of hip-hop's well known producers, Stevie Jay. That brief experience, didn't last long, but did open his eyes to where his music could take him. J.Halkz has gone on to perform at shows, as far west as Oklahoma, to New York City. Opening up for acts such as B.G., The Ying Yang Twins, OJ Da Juiceman, Nicki Minaj, and many more. From block parties, to colleges, to nightclubs, Halkz has displayed his showmanship to audiences as diverse as his music. After receiving the "Grinder of The Year" Award at the 1st Annual Buffalo Hip Hop Awards, Halkz realized it was time to expand. Now residing in New York City, J.Halkz has plans to spread his music throughout the region, work with the best in the game, and perform at some of the world's most renowned venues. So next time your at a gas station filling up your tank, and get approached by a guy asking you to buy his Cd……….do it, cause nobody is born successful, even the best had to start somewhere.
