Bio:
Veteran rockabilly guitarist Danny B. Harvey and jazz/blues vocalist Marie MacGillis formed Jazzabilly Blues in 2005. Harvey, who'd recently helmed rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson's acclaimed comeback effort I Remember Elvis, fused his trademark vintage licks with MacGillis's affection for the Great American Songbook to create a unique stylistic hybrid. The results are much like the sort of atmospheric Americana you'd expect to find on a David Lynch soundtrack. But where Lynch music tends to be wispy and narcotic, Jazzabilly Blues is sultry and earthy, powered by MacGillis's throaty purr. Equally comfortable working steamy midtempo grooves or torchy ballads, MacGillis and Jazzabilly Blues flavor their blend of rearranged standards and originals with bits of rockabilly, Western swing, honky tonk, hot '30s jazz, slow-burning blues, and small-combo swing. With support by pianist Don Randi (a longtime L.A. jazz mainstay), violinist Paloma Udovic, and the rock-solid rhythm section of bassist Oliver Steinberg and drummer David Raven, Jazzabilly Blues draws from the past to stake out fresh new territory, proving their inspirations are anything but creatively exhausted.
