JASON BURNSTICK
2010 APCMA Winner, 2009 Jessie Richardson Award Nominee, 2007Juno nominee and CAMA award winning lap slide guitarist, Jason Burnstick is singer songwriter and composer who performs with his arsenal of weissenborns and double neck lap slides. Known for his ability to freely move from one style to the next, Jason attributes this to his musical upbringing.
His tasteful musical presence compliments the mood of whatever setting he is placed whether it be a live performance, theatre, documentaries or in the opening credits with a hit TV series like Tamera Bull's First Talk. Jason can also be found performing with his own band or with good friends and peers Juno award winner Leela Gilday or blues rock styling's of George Leach.
"The whole play had the constant and unobtrusive playing of Jason Burnstick's guitar and weissenborn lap slide playing and singing…" Alex Waterhouse-Hayward, Photographer, writer, artist. Kevin Loring's, Where The Blood Mixes
There is an obvious flavour of blues and Latin influences in his style stemming from the guidance and support he received from his older brothers and the Latin texture is accredited to the Juno nominated Andean Group Kanatan Aski.
Jason's Debut Album "Burn" was Nominated for International Album of the Year at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards and took home Best Instrumental Album of the Year. Burn was also nominated for a Juno for Best Aboriginal Recording of the Year 2007.
One of Jason's personal musical highlights was when his was asked to play his weissenborn with musical icon Pura Fe at the Yale blues club in Vancouver in 2007.
"I know Pura Fe is going to go down in history as one of our greats!…Jason Burnstick"
Currently, Jason has stepped back into his blues roots and armed himself with a very precious gift from his musical hero Pure Fe, a double neck lap slide. Jason feels that he has finally found his voice and that the weissenborn and lap slides may be his final resting place.
