For an artist trying to attain success as a folk/country singer and songwriter, it’s doubtful that anyone would suggest that residing in North Central Kansas would make much sense. However, that all depends on what your perception of success is, and how important personal sanity can be to a creative mind. While the middle of the Midwest might not be a hotbed of opportunity for a songwriter and a man trying to make a living in the music business, it still remains where Jared "Pete" Gile finds the solace to keep his creative juices flowing.

Recently, Jared “Pete” Gile put those creative juices back to work by releasing an EP of 4 new songs entitled, Middle of the Midwest. The 4 song project was recorded in Austin, TX in August of 2009 with Rich Brotherton acting as producer. Brotherton, most well known for his role as lead guitarist for the Robert Earl Keen Band, shines throughout the project not only as producer/engineer but also as a multi-instrumentalist. The project also charts Gile’s continual growth as a songwriter, following his previous two full length studio releases: 2003’s Modern Day Mountain Man and 2007’s More of Me.

The solid foundation of the new CD is laid down by the title track of the project called Middle of the Midwest. The song tells of a man trying to make a living and raise a family in rural America, without the advantages and benefits offered by living in a big city, but also minus the darker parts of living in a metropolis, such as higher rates of crime and gangs. The remaining 3 songs on the new release deal with a couple familiar themes in country music such as drinking (Local Drunk), heartache and struggles (Getting Hit by a Train) all the way to the more edgy tune about maturing from a good-timing college kid to an adult with genuine responsibilities in the song In Between College and Kids.

Minus a brief stint of fronting his own band in 2004, Jared “Pete” Gile’s career has primarily been as a solo performer. After getting his start by performing in the bars of Manhattan, KS during his college years, Gile has went on to perform his original tunes at venues, festivals and smoky bars all the way from the famed town of Luckenbach, TX to the Upper Midwest.

Since 2003 Gile has averaged over 80 shows per year and has shared the stage with a plethora of great acts and songwriters including Robert Earl Keen, Billy Joe Shaver, Luke Bryan, Darrell Scott, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland and the Stragglers, Max Stalling, Kevin Fowler and many more.

Most recently Gile finally found his niche outside of music by starting a business and website with his father called www.fencepostfurniture.com . In between performances alongside his autograph laden and well worn guitar, Gile now fills his days with building rustic furniture by hand while thinking over lyrics for his next song.
