One hundred shows after the well-received Rectangle Records debut release, Jamie reassembled herself with former band mate, Markus Lake (bass) and took up the guitar, pouring herself into twelve songs that represent a change in direction for her both personally and musically. Aggressive, reverb-soaked guitar lines replace bubbling keyboards. Live drums replace electronic beats. Jane Vain recently finished recording and mixing the second full length album Give Us Your Hands, which is set for release in early summer. With the contributions and aid of musicians Nathan Curry (guitar) and Andrew Davidson (drums), Jane Vain is getting set to showcase this beautifully dense, noisy pop album across Canada this summer.

Former bio: (specific to the "love is where the smoke is" release):

From somewhere beneath the swelling strings and synths, the angular guitars and pulsating beats, cleaves the voice of Jamie Fooks of Jane Vain & the Dark Matter. In early 2003, Fooks started writing songs by her self in her basement apartment, to deal with the remaining demons of a reckless adolescence. Fooks was encouraged to continue performing by the support of friends, and gained the interest of guitar player Dillon Whitfield (of Raccoon). With the addition of Whitfield’s haphazard guitar playing, the foundation of Jane Vain & the Dark Matter was laid.

The duo played a string of shows, accompanied by only drums beats and bass, programmed by Fooks. These shows attracted attention from fans, promoters and other musicians.

Then, accompanied live by a rhythm section, (Shawn Dicey of Ox on drums, Stewart Elton) Jane Vain & the Dark Matter released their first full length, Love Is Where The Smoke Is, on Edmonton’s Rectangle Records, and are embarked on three national tours in support of their record. The record features contributions by local musicians Mark Hamilton, Foon Yap, and Annalea Sordi of Woodpigeon, Jesse Locke of SIDS, and Matt Flegel of Women. Inherent in the music is a kinetic energy, as if Jane Vain & the Dark Matter are aiming for anxious chaos, but achieving a careful clarity.

These songs were written, recorded & produced by Jamie Fooks. Mixed by Scott Fooks and Mastered at Ear Drum Valley in Kelowna BC. Dillon Whitfield played guitar, Foon Yap played violin, Mark Hamilton played Ukelele, Banjo, Acoustic guitar and sang beautifully and so did Annalea Sordi!
