Every once in a while, an artist will emerge who, though committed to certain musical facets, has the ability to transcend their craft and their audience. Armed with a true love of music, chill-inducing stage presence and blisteringly honest lyrics, The Machine is definitely an individual with this ability. Beginning his journey as a hip-hop artist at the tender age of twelve, this California native has been honing his skills for nine years. As a result, URB Magazine recognized him as a Next 1000 artist. He has also been featured on such sites as Music Over Money and XIUnivercity. Having just released his mixtape entitled "Fuck Swag," which he not only mixed but also mastered himself, James Shahan (or The Machine as many know him) is hard at work on his next project. The fact that he lives, breathes and loves music really shines through in his words and it would be hard to find another performer, hip-hop or otherwise, who is brave enough to let listeners in as much as he does. As if this weren't enough, he is an extraordinary poet, writer and actor to boot; he was published at 19 and landed a part in an independent film on his first audition (ever). Gaining a thumbs of from an ABB Records staff member at the age of 21 isn't a horrible thing either. And with collaborations on the way with such names as Diz Gibran, Priceless, Sirah, Micah James and Pheo, it's pretty evident that his talent is easily recognizable. Every time he touches down on stage, whether it be at "The Hotel Room" events in Little Tokyo or "The Blue Laguna" in Laguna Beach, people always approach him to tell him how much of an impact his performance had. If this doesn't speak volumes about how The Machine will make a change through music, then you just might need to listen a little harder.
