Fire & Rain - James Taylor [HD Jam Session] - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 18, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
JT Up Close & Personal. Filmed in picturesque Martha's Vineyard, this song features James and his highly regarded touring band as they prepare for their 1992 summer tour. The DVD - "James Taylor: Squibnocket" - captures James in the relaxed atmosphere of his home, thereby giving the performances a personal, intimate quality.

This is the band that recorded "James Taylor(Live)" in a rehearsal setting on Martha's Vineyard, and is probably the only live video available of the greatly missed Don Grolnick (playing in James' band). It also features the wonderful Michael Landau, who pulled out incredibly lyrical pedal steel sounds from his electric guitar.

A song - from his second album, "Sweet Baby James" -
about Taylor's experience in psychiatric institutions and
the suicide of his friend, Suzanne Schnerr.

Taylor explained to NPR host Scott Simon that the song was written in three parts: * The first part was about Taylor's friend Suzanne, who died while Taylor was in London working on his first album after being signed to Apple Records. * The second part details Taylor's struggle to overcome drug addiction and depression. * The third part deals with coming to grips with fame and fortune, looking back at the road that got him there. It includes a reference to James Taylor and The Flying Machine, a band he briefly worked with before his big break with Paul McCartney, Peter Asher, and Apple Records.

"Fire and Rain" is in the 227th position on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
