Jah Pong Biography 2007



Wainford Clarke was born in Westmoreland, Jamaica and has always aspired to becoming a d.j. As a youngster, his raw talent could be seen through his love for the music and entertaining. He was always a creative writer who , often times, composed somgs and poems. His musical journey began at the the age of 13. His friends and family were his loyal audience members. Then his first written song," A Come Mi Come Fi Mek Dem Know Sey Mi Hot", with great artistes such as Bob Marley, Lt. Stitchie, Admiral Bailey, and General Trees being his idols.



Pong was fascinated with music so much that he would spend a hours long hours listening to various radio programs and cutting newspaper clippings of his favorite artistes,making up an evergrowing portfolio.Friday nights were a treat because the top 10 and 20 music charts was on the RJR radio station and he could listen to new music. Migrating to Canada in the late 80's, Jah Pong attended Weston Collegaite institute where his love for the arts blossom. He participated in the various theatrical performances, which lead him to receive the certificate of recognition for distinctive performance in the festival of spoken words. Upon graduating from Weston, Indica International Sound was born. The venture gave Jah Pong a more hands on approach to his musical career. Pong has worked with artistes such as Capleton, Sizzla, Fanton Mojah, I Wayne, Collie Buddz, Marlon Asher, to name a few.



In 1994, former classmate and actor ,Dayo Aide, introduced Pong to the Distinct Look Agency, through which he began his acting career in Toronto's film and television industry. His first television exposure was in the popular series, Due South, in which he was cast in various roles. He also made an appearance on Jonovision , a CBC production, in which he was a background dancer.



To enhance his career, Jah Pong enrolled in an acting fundamental course and workshop at the well established Sears and Switzer in 1997. Jah Pong acting took off in 1999 when he auditioned and got the part of a silent on camera role ( SOC) in St. Louis Blues hockey team commercial for Partners Productions.This opportunity allowed him to gain the first credit towards becoming an ACTRA apprentice member. In 2003, Pong gained his second credit by doing a speaking role on Platinum, a television series starring rapper, Sticky Fingers. He gained his third credit in 2003 when he did hid ACTRA Works Workshop. Today, Jah Pong has become an accredited member of the Alliance of Canadian Cinemas Television ( ACTRA) and also a member of the Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada

( SOCAN). In 2004, Pong add to his film credits a Diet Pepsi commercial which is showing across Canada.



In the millenium, Jah Pong is still blazing the fire with his debut CD album , Fearless Love, which is available in most major record in Toronto and Montreal. The Fearless Love CD is dedicated to all kings and queens with a compilation of 13 tracks. Not to be reconed with, Jah Pong has filmed his " Empress" video which was aired in 2002, Muchmusic's Damix .Jah Pong has worked out of Platinum Studio. The artist was among a select few nominees for various awards at the 17th Annual Canadian Reggae Music Awards( CRMA). Jah Pong was nominated for Top Reggae Newcomer for his Empress and Weed Weed singles.



He makes frequent appearances on community radio stations in Ontario, Quebec, and Jamaica. He does many jingles and dub plates for disc jockeys and sound crews. His songs have been played on various radio stations like Irie FM and Galaxie .ca, CHRY, CKLN, and CIUT, to name a few. It's Your Time Magazine , did a feature on Jah Pong in its Volume 2 Winter Edition 2002. Jah Pong was also featured in the Reggaemania Magazine in 2002 and Reggae Xclusive in 2004. The " Player Haters" 12 inch featuring Spida and Fire Kid was released in 2002.Stay tuned for more musical genius to come.
