Jah King was born Jamel Marquan King on February 28, 1987 to Cassand Leigh and Maurice King. Hailing from Albany, New York, Jah balanced school (maintaining straight A's) and his interest in the arts. Upon completing his senior year in high school, Jah started to compose his own music to go along with the lyrics that he had been writing since the age of 9.
After graduation from the University at Albany in 2009, Jah continues to pursue his dream. College gave him more time to focus on his trade at a much larger level. Since then, Jah has performed in numerous shows including the MBK Entertainment Talent showcase held in New York City by Conrad Robinson (vocal coach and the one who discovered Alicia Keys), various local talent shows, a charity concert for St. Judes, and an audition for American Idol (where he made it to the second round).
Always working to improve himself mentally, physically and musically; Jah is looking not to be a star, but to be an artist who is sharing his dreams and talents in a positive light. Dedicated to his work, Jah works diligently to help further his career.
"I'm not amazing at what I do, but I love what I do. I know that I have a long way to go, but I can only go up from here."
Raised by his great grandparents, he grew up fast, dealing with many adult issues at a young age. "I was told to go for what I want and never let anything or anyone get in my way of being successful." "I feel like I've taken a negative situation and turned it into something positive for myself and those around me. I feel like I could be a good role model for kids and even more so, to younger males in the black community."
