Jaclyn Shaw was born singing on January 11th. Her mother Theresa Shaw remarked that even the screech of sound Jaclyn let out as she took her first breath was musical and rhythmic. Since an early age, Jaclyn would align dots and lines in attempt to log the notes she sang. Little did she know that she would grow to learn the notation system and create against it. Though all signs pointed to Jaclyn's interest in music, she was not encouraged to pursue her career until early adulthood. As Jaclyn went to Wagner College for her love of philosophy and psychology, she often would take library books to the local "Muddy Cup" café and read up on her studies. Little did she know that the music scene tied to the café chain she visited so frequently would spark a sudden artistic nerve and launch her into an underground community of artists and musicians that she never knew existed. Starting in 2005, Jaclyn taught herself the rudiments of music and decided to further her education by taking extra music classes in her community college after graduating with her psychology degree from Wagner College. She immediately absorbed what she learned and decided to start teaching it. Shortly after Jaclyn learned the basis of theory she started tutoring other college students. When she embarked on instruction at a local music school, Richmond Music Center, in Staten Island in April 2006, she was confronted with many artists who were trying to "make it." Soon after, Jaclyn decided she wanted to start writing her own music, and began incorporating the poetry she had written with melodic rifts and counterpoint chords on her classical guitar. Since the first time she started singing and playing at a local lounge called Martini Red, people were intrigued by her ability to play such complicated riffs and sing in perfect emotional range. Not only were the first songs she wrote complex in musical nature, they were reflections of the very emotions she personally felt and a clear expression of an ultimate feminine creation. With time and diligence, Jaclyn has made a name for herself- traveling and playing in the Northeastern United States. Since she first began in June 2006, Jaclyn has performed over a hundred gigs with her music. Jaclyn also has played with numerous accompanying talents such as Pinky Mendez, Bobby Kane, Tim Boyand, and Sarah Carrier. Recently, Jaclyn Shaw teamed with music schoolteacher and fellow singer songwriter Dreya, in embellishing her music with vocal harmonies and accompanying instrumentation such as flute and cello. The accompanying musical sounds create a dark orchestral mix of partially free form music considering the vast tempo and time signature changes. The theatrical effect of the music allows a free ear to listen for mood changes accompanied by operatic vocals dancing over the arrangement that Jaclyn and Dreya create.
