Heavy Feather formerly Jackpot City combines crunchy chainsaw guitar rock with lush vocal harmonies and diverse instrumentation creating a unique sound. Before forming, the members of Heavy Feather already had impressive musical resumes. Mamie Fike played with the Chickasaw Mudd Puppies and Asa Nisa Masa, which were both produced by R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe. Kathy Kirbo is formerly of Greenhouse and Purr, which was produced by R.E.M.'s Mike Mills. Kelly Noonan played with Wet and Billy James (also produced by Mike Mills) and Ian Werden also plays with Dodd Ferrell and High Caliber. Shortly after forming, the band's catchy array of songs was noticed by Widespread Panic bassist, Dave Schools, who went on to produce their first demo.

Their first full length record, out Spring of 2009, produced by the band and Ben Mize (formerly of the Counting Crows), Dave Schools of Widespread Panic and engineered by Ben Holst, Kyle Spence of Tom Collins and Harvey Milk, and Andy Baker. With lots of Athens friends sitting in such as Dave Barbe (Sugar), John Neff (Drive By Truckers), etc. with Dave Schools and Ben Mize playing on some tracks.

Look for songs by Heavy Feather featured in the soon-to-be-released movies, "Say Yes Quickly" by Haxan Films and "Shutter" by Southlan Films.
