Two hip-hop kids meet in Montreal high school and start group called velvettrenchvibes.
Make first songs by looping beats on two cassette tape deck. One deck plays the last few vocal-less seconds
of a miscellenious hip-hop song while the other deck records on blank cassette. By stopping record button on the snare, rewinding
to the beginning of the instrumental, and then repeating process 18 times,
velvettrenchvibes create 3 minute loops to put vocals on.
A year later they upgrade to recording on free computer software. One track
recordings, using the computer microphone to pick up the music playing from a tape deck.
Accidentaly discover the multi-track recording button on said computer program,
absolute apeshit ensues.
They win battles,
Do a commercial for the Muchmusic Vibe channel,
Release “Opium Lounge” Mixtape as Free Download , get reviewed, chart.
Develop musical tastes, motivating “The Vibes” to find this guy to play the guitar, then later this guy to play drums and this one girl to play violin.
Book their own tour to support “Opium Lounge” Across Canada, results in 20 000
downloads,

Insult aforementioned big shots
Asked to make HITS!, make FUZZ! instead, sell 13 000 singles in Japan.

while some get their alcohol stolen while performing.
Play the NXNE festival Dundas Square stage.
Drummer quits band to pursue degree as recording engineer. Violinist moves to NYC to
attend NYU. Guitarist stays true to the cause.
Ecclectic lo-fi sound of “The Fuzz” drives “The Vibes” to find an ecclectic lo-fi bass
player. He brings along old friend to become new drummer.
Sudden influx of instruments force the rappers to learn how to play keyboards in order
compete with the new music’s vast sound, as well as to keep up with the rest of the bands increasingly
cool demeanor.
Tour Canada with new line-up, laying groundwork for the release of “The Fuzz”. Return to Montreal
to a weekly residency gig at Crobar lounge. A soviet flag brought on tour (representive of all band
members sharing food/alcohol/profits equally), inspires the New Communist Party, flag later becomes imagery
for “Party In Stalingrad” mixtape.
Montreal Mirror documents new sound.
Partner with local photographer/artist Merriah Medway for original artwork for “The Fuzz”. End up
making blog, videos, taking pictures and starting digital label to house the project.
