Lokey!

Failure is not an option for Chicago-bred producer Anthony Davis, better known as Lokey throughout the Southeast side. With a heavy resume' and a business mind backing him, Lokey is destined for stardom. Coming from a city thats much overlooked, he plans to turn the tables.



In his earlier years, Lokey was very much influenced by the Kanye West style of music, heavy drums and soul sampling. "Everybody wanted to sound like they were rapping on Kanye tracks. So i started sampling all my favorite soul samples and was callin myself Kanye East. I wanted to be the next Kanye." says Lokey. He claims that alot of motivation came from artists complaining his music didn't sound as good as the other well-known Chicago based producers at that time. "Artists would be like Lokey tracks are cool, but i need so and so's beats. At that time I could have folded." Lokey says. Instead, he took that negativity and ran with it and since then, has been unstoppable. " I knew it was real when i did the tracks for R.Kelly," says Lokey, referring to such tracks as "Pull Ya Hair" & "Tryna Get A Number featuring Nelly". Now, years later, Lokey is the go-to man for production in the chicagoland area. Working with everyone from R.Kelly, L.E.P. (Low End Professionals), BunB, Twista, Sly Polaroid, GLC and many many more local chicago acts. Most importantly, he focuses on keeping a relevant sound. Still very much influenced by Kanye West, Lokey can go whichever route he wants. He says "when Young Jeezy came out, everybody wanted that Jeezy sound" Lokey now compares his unique sound to southern producer Drumma Boy (from Drum Squad), Young Jeezy producer, Shawty Redd and Gucci Mane producer, Zaytoven. "You mix all these producers styles in a pot, you will have my sound" he states.



Not being comfortable with taking over just one city, Lokey knew his music could go further than the chicagoland area. Early 2008, he created a mixtape series titled "SMOKE SUMN B*TCH", which showcases his production dating back to early 2007. With several successful mixtapes floating the net, Lokey is starting to take notice across the US. He says "I didnt expect to get the responses i got from the tapes but its starting to take off now and im looking to expand it as far as possible." With the success he's gained from the mixtape line, which is available on DATPIFF.COM, Lokey will also be showcasing Chicago's hottest artists. "There is so much talent here and they may never get noticed. I hope to change that."
