If VERSE The Artist couldn't be called one of the most influential inspiring underground artist of the times, it would be hard to find another who could hold the title. VERSE'S music is timeless and spans from various genres from rap (rhythm and poetry) to disco, gospel to rhythm and blues. VERSE'S music is faithful copies of artwork. She paints pictures verbally, evoking her truth in hopes to influence others to embrace, and share their truth. Her talent and style speaks for itself. She says, "Having, and showing moral integrity in music is most fundamental. We all want to hear something good, uplifting… "good" is the one thing we all can relate to, because we all possess it."
VERSE The Artist was born Chanel Kisha Davis in Lynwood California. She began writing in 1986. Back then, poetry was an outlet for creative expression during times of mental unease. She would write about enduring years of war against crack cocaine, infidelity, trust, and domestic violence in the home. As time progressed, her relationship with inner-self became of major importance. She began to realize the power of words, the ability to speak life and not death. She exclaims, "Now, as a matured, experienced woman, knowing, and being able to decipher good fruit from bad fruit, it is my responsibility to rise above the oversimplified visuals, or assumptions of a female emcee. I am a poet, a motivator, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend." VERSE is now working on several projects, constantly creating, powerful, everlasting music.
