“Be light. Shine!” It is this attitude and the brilliance of her poetry that belies her 26 years. Originally from New Jersey, Isis Speaks has made an indelible mark on the entertainment scene in the greater Denver-Metro area and its surrounding cities. Isis’ work transcends poetry slams and coffee houses to inspire those who will listen and undoubtedly leave her show forever changed. Isis Speaks has been performing poetry professionally for 7 years, and has become synonymous with excellence. Isis’ poetry explores universal themes of empowerment, reclamation, love, enlightenment, heartbreak, and the topics that remind us that we are all connected. She has a tenderness at the center of her work, which comes thru in the warmth of her voice. Isis' work has been described as, "a meritage of Saul Williams' passion and Maya Angelou's eloquence with an incendiary tongue." The grace and power she exudes from any stage are unparalleled. Combining her gifts as a writer and vocalist, words and songs interlock to weave a tapestry of teaching, living, healing, and loving.

Isis’ list of awards and recognition includes; Host of Denver’s nationally televised premier poetry event Café Nuba, 2006 Denver City Slam Champion, 2006 National Poetry Slam Champion, 2007 Denver’s Best Female Poet, and 2008 Women of the World Slam Finalist. In 2008, the Just Media Foundation tapped Isis to host PodSlam TV, an interactive online poetry slam. Isis has spent the past 3 years touring the country visiting venues and college campuses from New York to San Diego.

Since the 2004 release of her first album, Isis has amassed an impressive body of work. Isis has appeared on several poetry compilations and has also released a chapbook titled Honeysuckle: A Collection of Memories and Misremembered Journeys. Spring of 2009 marked the release of Isis’ third studio album titled “It Is What It Is.” Internationally recognized, she has shared stages with such luminaries as Sonia Sancehz, the late Oscar Brown, Jr., The Last Poets, Dead Prez, Saul Williams, The Flobots, and Rebel Diaz among countless others.

In addition to national tours, Isis is in high demand as an event host, featured artist, workshop facilitator, and motivational speaker. Education is her true passion, and any opportunity for her to share the power of creative writing with youth is not missed.
